3D Cinema Anticipated To Take Australian Audiences By Storm In 2008
KODAK and REAL D Celebrate Turning 18 in Australia
Kodak Digital Cinema has delivered eighteen of nineteen digital 3D installations in Australia, making them the premier digital 3D provider in the country and creating the infrastructure for broad audience acceptance.
Forming a strategic alliance with REAL D two years ago, the two organizations have successfully achieved their goal of introducing digital 3D cinema in Australia.
REAL D is the worldwide inventor and provider of key stereoscopic technologies used in entertainment, marketing, science and other industries and Kodak, as the Australian agent for the REAL D system and specialist digital cinema integrator, has brought a new cinema-going experience to Australian audiences.
Over the past two years, the Kodak – REAL D systems have facilitated the screenings of major releases for a number of studios, including Disney, Fox and most recently Warner Bros. who wowed audiences with its mythical feature, Beowulf.
“New and exciting content is coming through all the time,” enthuses David Sanderson, General Manager, Kodak Digital Cinema, Asia Pacific Region. “We anticipate the next eighteen months will deliver a whole raft of 3D presentations which will also go beyond feature films with the potential for live sports and other alternative content. During 2008 audiences will get to see some incredible programs including the much-anticipated U2 3D concert, which we demonstrated at the Australian International Movie Convention in August 2007.”
With new installations at the United Warriewood Cinema and Hoyts Broadway Cinema in New South Wales, and Hoyts Chadstone in Victoria, the two states each boast one third of Australia’s REAL D 3D digital cinema sites with the remaining sites spread across Queensland, the A.C.T., Western Australia and South Australia.
“Kodak has a legacy of innovation in the entertainment industry,” Sanderson explains. “Digital technology is ubiquitous and it is very rewarding to be part of the transition in cinema, which is a major leap for Kodak, particularly as it relates to the world of high-quality 3D motion pictures.”
The industry-leading REAL D cinema solution is offered to exhibitors as part of KODAK’s comprehensive digital cinema strategy.
