CHRISTIE ANNOUNCES ACCELERATION OF DIGITAL CINEMA INSTALLATIONS IN ASIA-PACIFIC MARKETS

Christie, an international provider of visual solutions for business, entertainment and industry, continues to set the pace for the implementation of digital cinema worldwide with recent installations in the growing Asia-Pacific marketplace. These include the first 2K resolution projectors, the Christie CP2000 digital cinema projector, installed in Beijing, China as well as in Taiwan.

State-owned China Film Group Corporation (CFG), Beijing, China’s sole foreign film distributor and importer, selected Christie’s digital cinema projectors as part of its implementation efforts for the second phase of the country’s four-part D-Cinema initiatives. China Film Group Corporation has already established 54 digital sites and plans to establish another 50 by the end of 2004. These undertakings, which aim to spur the growth of local digital cinema, have already introduced 10 new Christie digital cinema locations in Beijing, Shanghai, Shengyang, Wuxi, Nanjing and Shaoxing. The sites are quickly becoming showcases for D-cinema technology and encouraging more exhibitors to take the “digital plunge”.

“Christie has been one of our key collaborators in developing digital cinema in China,” said Chen Fei, Chief Technology Officer, China Film Group Corp. “To date, we’ve acquired a total of 10 Christie digital cinema projectors, including the first Christie CP2000, which was installed in Beijing. We are well under way to meeting our goal for 2004.”

Taiwan Takes to 2K
Taipei-based Lux Cinema and Cinemark-Core Pacific, two of Taiwan’s largest multiplex theater chains, recently installed the first Christie CP2000 projectors. Installed by Christie’s Taiwanese partner, Wei’s Brother Company Limited, both projectors were used to screen the country’s first local digital feature, the Hollywood blockbuster “The Last Samurai.”

“As the government more actively promotes digital cinema in Taiwan, we foresee a rapid growth in digital sites for the very near future,” said Yong-Tsu Wei, President, Wei’s Brother Company, Limited. “As more and more exhibitors and movie-going audiences see first-hand the clarity and resolution of 2K DLP Cinema(tm) technology, the movie-going experience will become increasingly attractive and a preferred mode of entertainment.”

In addition to the latest Christie DLP Cinema(tm) projectors, Core Pacific features Christie P35GPD 35mm gearless projection systems with a combination projector and LED soundhead; Christie SLC40 and SLC30 Xenolite consoles, AW3M52 Autowind platter, as well as the Christie 3Q system that provides control of all cinema automation.
