“The Impossible”, the First Film with imm Sound’s Immersive 3D Sound

The film “The Impossible”, directed by Juan Antonio Bayona and starring Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts, recreates the drama of the tsunami that hit the coastlines of Thailand in December 2004. imm sound is the world leader in 3D immersive sound solutions for the cinema industry and the film’s post-production will be carried out using their 3D immersive sound.

imm sound has created a revolutionary immersive 3D sound system, which offers the cinema industry an authentic third sound dimension, thanks to which, viewers are submerged into a completely immersive experience. This revolution is made possible by imm sound breaking away from the concept of channels and other limiting factors associated with the analogue era and adding the vertical layer that was previously lacking in the cinema experience. What’s more, imm sound’s 3D immersive sound system is compatible with all sound systems currently in use and adapting it to the configuration of screening rooms is a very simple and straightforward process.

According to Bayona, imm sound’s immersive 3D technology provides “The Impossible” with a“spectacular sound that allows the audience to become completely involved in the story. It is very exciting to be able to use imm sound’s immersive 3D sound system, which realistically reflects the authentic depth and intensity of sound in The Impossible”.

Belén Atienza, representing Apaches, the film’s producer, comments “We are very proud that The Impossible should be the first film to be made using the imm sound system. It is an extraordinary system, which enhances the power of the image and transports the viewer into the world of the film, intensifying the sensory and therefore also the emotional experience in the cinema”.

In the words of Marc Orts, sound engineer on “The Impossible” who was also responsible for the sound on Pedro Almodóvar’s “The Skin I Live In”, imm sound’s immersive 3D sound creates “new acoustic sensations that have never before been experienced in a cinema screening room”, and that it enables the audience to “feel truly immersed in the film”.

imm sound’s technology “is a tool at the service of the creativity of the language of cinema, since it allows the conception of scenes that would have been unthinkable when working within the limits of the traditional audio system”, remarks Orts.

Oriol Tarragó, sound designer of “The Impossible” adds that “Never has such a natural, realistic sound been achieved and with so many creative options. imm sound is the future, I no longer think about how to adapt a world of sound to audio channels. Now I only think about how and where I want each thing to sound, my imagination is free”.
