Warner Bros. Technical Operations is responsible for identifying and
developing technologies that facilitate business development and growth. The
Division also provides technologies and operational support for new ventures.
WBTO was a driving force behind the creation of DVD and developed much of the
patented technology that defines the format. The technical and engineering
resources of WBTO support all Warner Bros. Entertainment subsidiaries and are
responsible for oversight and implementation of product and distribution-related
systems throughout WB. WBTO works closely with sales divisions providing
technical due diligence supporting new business opportunities.
WBTO has responsibility for the administration and management of the physical
distribution of the Studio’s films and television shows worldwide. This includes
the film-to-digital transfer/mastering process for television and digital
cinema, logistics and distribution, dubbing and subtitling and digital
compression operations, including DVD authoring. WBTO provides the technical
infrastructure and operations for The WB Television Network as well as domestic
and international television syndication.
Finally, WBTO is charged with the preservation and restoration of the vast
Warner Bros. Studio’s film and television library. WBTO’s extensive development
efforts to create new technologies and tools for film restoration have
revitalized such classic films as “Gone with the Wind” and “The Wizard of Oz”.
Such restorations provide re-release opportunities in various markets and ensure
that high quality elements are retained as part of the company’s library.
WBTO is responsible for the Studio’s conversion to digital distribution and is
the first to use this technology to transition how syndicated product is
distributed worldwide.
