Cannes—May 11, 2004

Barco Digital Cinema, a partner of the Cannes Film Festival

For the third year in a row, Barco Digital Cinema has put its entire line of D-Cinema digital projectors at the disposal of the world’s most prestigious cinematographic event: the Cannes Film Festival.

Digital projection will be in the spotlight at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival. The grand finale will be one of the festival’s most eagerly awaited films, the return of “the green monster”: in other words, “Shrek 2”, produced by DreamWorks Studios.

Directed by Andrew Adamson, Kelly Asbury and Conrad Vernon, “Shrek 2” will be shown Saturday, May 14, in the Grand Théâtre Lumière (located in the Palais des Festivals) on a screen measuring more than 20 meters (65 feet) wide. Barco’s top-of-the-line projector, the D-Cine Premiere DP100, will be used. The projected image has a remarkable contrast range (1700:1) and luminosity (18000 lumens). The DP100 is built with the latest 2K DLP Cinema technology developed by Texas Instruments, Barco’s supplier for its entire line of D-Cinema.
First shown a year ago, and on the market for only a few months, the Barco D-Cine Premiere DP100 has become an instant success. Over forty DP100 systems have already been sold around the world. The largest order (20 projectors) is from Singapore. In France, Éclair Laboratories have ordered one to complete their digital grading facilities.

Besides this DP100 installation in the largest auditorium at Cannes, Barco Digital Cinema has also deployed a D-Cine Premiere DP50 projector in the Debussy auditorium, and a D-Cine Premiere DP30 in the Buñuel auditorium. The latter will be used for showings of restored films that are part of the French cultural heritage. Thus, the entire range of Barco D-Cinema digital projectors will be on hand at Cannes for you to see how they fit the needs of all types of movie theatres and the requirements of a wide range of exhibitors.
