Christie Supports Screenings of “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith” for Europe’s Largest Digital Release
Pan-European Digital Screenings Feature Christie CP2000 2K DLP Cinema™ Projectors
On May 18, the last episode of George Lucas’ Star
Wars prequel trilogy, “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith,” officially
opens in the U.S. and Europe. Millions of fans are going to learn how Anakin
Skywalker is transformed by the dark side of the force to become the evil Darth
Vader.
Digitally equipped cinemas across Europe will be the first to provide Star Wars
fans the answer to that question and Christie, a leading manufacturing of film,
e-cinema and Digital Cinema projection, will be helping to make that happen.
Theatres across the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands and
Switzerland will be using Christie 2K DLP Cinema projectors to screen the
digital release of the epic.
German cinema theatres like UCI-Cinema Düsseldorf, Ufa-Crystal Palace in Dresden
and CineCitta Multiplex-Cinema in Nuremberg (equipped with Christie CP2000 2K
Digital Cinema projectors) have experienced a sudden demand for tickets to the
digital screenings. CineCitta has already sold 2000 tickets for the first “Star
Wars Weekend,” with an incredible 93% of all ticket sales for the digital
version of the movie.
A large number of Christie Digital Cinema projectors have recently been
installed as part of the first Pan-European Digital Cinema roll-out, an
initiative driven by XDC, a new member company of the EVS Group (the
manufacturer of Digital Cinema server technology). The initiative supports the
CineStore™ server infrastructure required for the digital exhibition of
movies like “Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith.”
