Sony® and FPSI Take Aim at Pre-Release Security; Team Up to Help Exhibitors Better Address Security and Content Piracy with More Cost-Effective, Less Intrusive Pirateeye Technology

Agreement Brings Together World’s Leading Anti-Piracy Technology and the Scale and Breadth of Network Services from Sony to Make Security Technology More Accessible and Affordable Than Ever
Sony today announced an agreement with FPSI, Inc., the company responsible for developing the groundbreaking PirateEye anti-piracy system, that aims to better tackle security at pre-release events such as premiers and screenings in a more simple and cost-effective manner for exhibitors and a more comfortable, hassle-free way for moviegoers.

With PirateEye exhibitors can reduce or eliminate the need for metal detectors, bag inspections, cell phone confiscations, or security personnel equipped with night vision goggles – all common security practices used today at approximately 500 screens involved with pre-release events.

The PirateEye system employs sophisticated camcorder and cell phone lens detection technology that works in concert with a real-time remote monitoring center that assesses potential piracy threats. Upon detection of a lens and conclusion that recording may be occurring, exhibitors are immediately notified by email or mobile phone alerts with specific theater and seat information to enable a response.

The technology provides exhibitors with an unmatched ability to secure pre-release events while detecting and stopping piracy in their theaters without burdening their business with added costs and complexity. The Digital Cinema Solutions division of Sony will serve as the installer of PirateEye systems, allowing FPSI to harness the experience and technical resources of Sony’s network services organizations.

“Today’s agreement between Sony and FPSI provides exhibitors with a new option for addressing security, working with a company that many of them already know and trust, and one that’s already familiar with many of their facilities and network operations,” said Gary Johns, senior vice president, Digital Cinema Solutions, Sony Electronics. “Combined with a relatively low installation cost and no upfront hardware fees, PirateEye is a solution worth looking at.”

“Security at pre-release events is a constant concern for exhibitors. We strongly believe that PirateEye is the right answer to the problem, providing a simple, unobtrusive, cost-effective solution that’s easily installed and managed, and ultimately is more comfortable for moviegoers,” said Brian Dunn, Chief Executive Officer, PirateEye.

“Exhibitors now have a trusted partner in Sony, one that understands their operations and whose network of skilled professionals can help bring the benefits of PirateEye to their businesses.” For more information on PirateEye or today’s news, visit the PirateEye website, Sony Digital Cinema website, or see us in person at CinemaCon 2012 at the Sony Digital Cinema booth, #2711 in the Augustus Ballroom, Emperor’s level in Caesars Palace.
