Kinoton 4K D-Cinema Solutions Surging in Popularity

Kinoton’s current 4K Digital Cinema solutions are being eagerly snapped up by the market. A whole slew of installations is already proving itself daily in movie theatres. The latest in Germany include the Cineplex in Marburg, the Cinema in Dachau, and the Comet Cine Center in Mönchengladbach.

All of these projectors boast a resolution of 4,096 x 2,160 pixels, or four times the 2K standard, an increase that is especially advantageous on large to very large screens. The higher resolution of the 4K format yields sharper, more realistic, stunning images unmarred by visible pixel structures, not even from the front rows. There is an accelerating trend toward the use of full 4K: recent examples of movies produced in this higher resolution include “Men in Black 3”, “Premium Rush”, and Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus”.

In addition to the two 4K D-Cinema projectors – the DCP 30 MX II - 4K and DCP 30 LX II -4K – Kinoton also offers its customers the possibility of upgrading the models of its proven 2K series for high-resolution 4K projection. The second generation of Kinoton’s DCP projectors is based on projection technology supplied by Barco. 2K / 4K DLP Cinema® Series II technology from Texas Instruments ensures highly precision color reproduction and an outstanding contrast ratio. These projectors excel with persuasive image quality and unique operator-friendliness. They are also inexpensive to operate, since they require only minimal maintenance and can be used with standard xenon lamps.

All of the Series II DCP projectors support higher frame rates (HFR). This capability can be taken advantage of to achieve a significantly smoother viewing experience, especially with 3D content and fast-moving scenes. Movie directors and producers James Cameron and Peter Jackson in particular are championing the cause of high-frame-rate technology.

Jackson is now making “The Hobbit”, the release of which has been announced for late 2012, with a rate of 48 frames per second – twice the currently prevailing standard. Rapid camera panning and fast-moving objects especially benefit from this.

Kinoton will be showcasing its new 4K D-Cinema solutions at CineEurope in Barcelona (Booth 337) on June 18-21.
