QuVIS' Prepared For Large Scale JPEG2000 Delivery

QuVIS, Inc. has announced the first public exhibition of a successful decryption, decoding, and playback of the DCI StEM JPEG2000 reference material at the upcoming Cinema Expo in Amsterdam RAI, June 28 through 30. This process was successfully demonstrated at the Digital Cinema Labs in Los Angeles, Calf. on June 17, 2005, reaching another milestone in the delivery of the next generation Digital Cinema systems.

QuVIS will display this content on a QuVIS Cinema Player™, the third generation QuVIS platform designed to track the emerging Digital Cinema Initiatives recommendations. QuVIS has announced availability of JPEG2000 as a low cost option for the QuVIS Cinema Player in August 2005.

"QuVIS has developed and patented technology specifically targeted for digital cinema for over a decade. QuVIS pioneered wavelet-based quality priority cinema systems, security, watermarking, 2K and 4K image resolutions, 3D, subtitling, low-rate temporal wavelet encoding and advanced audio capabilities for cinema applications," Kenbe Goertzen, CEO, QuVIS, said. "With the recent successful completion of DCI file encode and decode tests, we are now confident the requirements are understood, and we can release our DCI hardware revisions to production."

- The QuVIS Cinema Player includes support for: Superior image quality with both JPEG2000 and QPE™
- Support for native XYZ imagery at up to 2K 4:4:4 12 bits/component
- JPEG2000 MXF packaging
- Superset of the AES encryption and key management functionality
- 12 (16 once defined by DCI) discreet channels of audio
- Subtitling using CineCanvas™ or QuVIS Titlemaster™
- Automation support via 10 GPIs and IP control
- Robust and secure reporting capabilities

- Current and future options for the QuVIS Cinema Player include: 3D playback
- Realtime 2K extraction from a 4K master
- 4K direct playback
- Temporal and streaming wavelet modes

"We are pleased that the DCI recommendations are so close to our own digital cinema offering. This release will combine the maturity and broad feature set of the QuVIS Cinema Player, with the file formats desired by DCI, providing an unique combination of maturity, reliability, and leading edge functionality," Goertzen said. "This combination of QuVIS and DCI originated requirements results in a feature set that provides significant flexibility and future proofing for this emerging industry."

The QuVIS Cinema Player is part of the QuVIS Digital Cinema Solution, which includes the QuVIS Acuity™ and QuVIS QuStudio™ for post production, mastering and content encryption; QuVIS KeyMaster™ for secure distribution and key management; and QuVIS QuShow™ for in-theater scheduling, either standalone, or in conjunction with an existing system.

This announcement follows on the heels of the Arts Alliance and UK Film Council decision to supply QuVIS Cinema Players for a network of 250 screens in the UK. With first shipments taking place next month, the independent cinemas served by the Film Council will be able to take advantage of the latest technology on what will be the world's largest true Digital Cinema circuit.
