Christie Is Sponsor of 30th Toronto International Film Festival September 8-17, 2005

Provides Five High-Performance Digital Projectors, Including the Christie CP2000 DLP Cinema™ 2K Resolution Projector to Showcase Major Feature Films
Christie, a major provider of visual solutions for business, entertainment and industry, announced that it is a sponsor of the 30th Toronto International Film Festival(r) (TIFF), September 8-17, 2005. Christie is providing five high performance digital projectors that include the Christie CP2000 Digital Cinema projector, three SXGA+ resolution DLP™ projectors, and a Christie LCD projector. Christie digital projectors will screen a variety of major Hollywood studio releases and international feature films, reflecting the industry’s growing trend towards Digital Cinema.

Since its inception in 1976, TIFF has grown into one of the most successful events of its kind, universally regarded as second only to Cannes. Each year, the Festival brings together an exceptional diversity of local, national and international films, making it a must-attend event for thousands of industry representatives and members of the media alike. Most importantly, it is a people's festival, where thousands of moviegoers get a chance to see films from around the world months before their actual release.

TIFF has gained an international reputation for technical excellence. In recent years, more than a hundred films showcased at the Festival have been screened using digital projection technology that allows audiences to view films in the highest resolution available today with state-of-the-art systems. This year, the industry-leading Christie CP2000, featuring the latest generation of DLP Cinema technology, will showcase films at the Festival’s main stage, the Varsity 8 Theatre, inside the Cineplex Odeon Varsity Cinemas at Manulife Centre in Toronto. Among the movies to be screened on the Christie CP2000 projector will be Martin Scorsese's highly anticipated feature documentary “No Direction Home: Bob Dylan,” a look at the life of one of the world’s most popular music artists. The projector will also screen the new film from Steven Soderbergh, “Bubble.” Christie digital projectors will display other important films at the VIP 4, Cumberland and Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) Theatres.

"We are thrilled to have Christie back at the Festival this year," said Natalie Lue, Director of Theatre Operations. "With its cutting-edge projection systems, Christie offers Toronto audiences the best in digital technology."

"As filmmakers and major studios move in the direction of Digital Cinema, it is important that the Festival keep up technologically," says Andrei Gravelle, Technical Director. “Christie is an integral part of our expansion in terms of equipment for digital presentation across our different venues.”

“Christie is proud to again be supporting the Toronto International Film Festival, a prestigious event and one of the biggest in the world of cinema,” says Craig Sholder, Vice President of Christie’s Entertainment Solutions group. “It is a privilege to provide Christie digital projectors for this event, and to continue to show our support for the art of filmmaking.”
