Partnership Between Cinelive and SES Triples Satellite Transmission Speed to Cinemas

With standards developed by Cinelive and a SES-6 power, distribution of a full movie in HD will take less than a quarter of the time
Pioneer in broadcast digital content via satellite to cinemas in Brazil, Cinelive announces new partnership with SES, a global leader in the operation of geostationary satellites. The arrangement allows the transmission speed to be tripled, which will make distribution of films much faster than it currently is.

Using capacity of the new SES satellite (SES-6), Cinelive becomes the first company to distribute films to cinemas using Brazilian technology for satellite transmission in accordance with standards established by the global film industry. Besides the transmission of films, Cinelive works with satellite transmission of live content for Brazilian theaters, including cultural shows and sporting events worldwide.

“The distribution of movies via satellite to cinemas is already happening in Brazil and it was introduced to all the studios, and it validated our security concerns to protection of the contents. Backed by SES, we can expand this model to nationwide" explains Laudson Diniz, executive manager of Cinelive. With over two thousand rooms already adapted to receive satellite transmission, Cinelive wants to cover, before de end of 2014, 100% of Brazilian cinemas with this single satellite.

With the current standard technology, most films are distributed to theaters via memory cards loaded with files of about 400 GB. Because of the large file size, transmitting via satellite required up to three days. With the standards developed by Cinelive and the SES-6 power, the distribution of a complete movie will be reduced to a quarter of that time.

In addition, with the new satellite, Cinelive expands its ability to simultaneously transmit sporting and cultural events for up to four events. Responsible for several live performances and sporting spectacles in national cinemas, Cinelive has already sold over 200 000 tickets for this type of attraction.

About Cinelive: Pioneer in broadcasting digital content via satellite to Brazilian cinemas, Cinelive created a transmission model that meets the needs of exhibitors and the pattern of distribution. This transmission model is already present at more than 120 complexes in Brazil, enabling live performances and sporting events. Cinelive was born in Casablanca Online, the largest Brazilian satellite broadcasting company, which belongs to the Casablanca Group.
