23rd Cottbus Film Festival: Kinoton Once Again Official Partner

This year Kinoton is once again supporting the Cottbus Film Festival as an Official Partner. Taking place in the region of Lusatia between November 5 and 10, the festival will play host to film celebrities from Germany and other countries as well as a large crowd of fans of Central and Eastern European cinema. Like last year, the official opening event will take place in the Staatstheater Cottbus, which—along with the main festival venue, the Stadthalle Cottbus—will be equipped by Kinoton with a D-Cinema projection solution (DCS). For the first time, the Kammerbühne will also boast a Kinoton DCS.

The festival has high quality expectations and poses very demanding technical requirements. In addition to first-class picture and sound quality in the showings, reliable technical support is an absolute must. At the opening event in the impressive Staatstheater Cottbus on November 5, Academy Award winner Pepe Danquart’s new movie “Run, Boy, Run” will be shown using a leading-edge 4K D-Cinema projection solution (DCS), which will then immediately be moved to the festival’s main venue, the Stadthalle Cottbus. There, the service technicians of Kinoton’s Eastern German branch will very quickly and professionally integrate the Kinoton DCS under the supervision of Andreas Schwerma. This year Kinoton will also install a Kinoton D-Cinema projection solution in the Kammerbühne, another of the festival’s venues. To ensure that everything runs smoothly and without problems throughout the festival, the Kinoton team will also provide on-site service and support.

Launched in 1991, the Cottbus Film Festival has meanwhile advanced to become a leading forum for contemporary Eastern European cinematic art, attracting nearly 20,000 visitors last year. This year 150 productions from 38 countries will be presented in three competitions and 10 other sections. Where feature films are concerned, 11 movies from 13 countries—one foreign and 10 German premieres—will compete for the main prize, which is endowed with 20,000 euros, and four glass LUBINA award statuettes for the best film, best director, most outstanding actress, and most outstanding actor. The winners will be chosen by an international jury. The host city of Cottbus is located 120 km southeast of Berlin and is a gateway to the east, only a few miles away from the border to Poland in the bilingual (German/Sorbian) Lausitz (Lusatia) region in the state of Brandenburg.
