Santikos Theatres Acquires Barco Laser Projection to Deliver Cutting-Edge Movie Presentation

Barco, the digital cinema technology leader, will supply its recently launched 4K 6P laser projector to Santikos’ Palladium cinema located in San Antonio, Texas. This bold move will bring heightened image quality to its movie showings, and builds upon its exclusive deployment of Barco’s high-quality xenon projectors already installed across the exhibitor’s circuit.

Santikos Theatres resides on the forefront of movie exhibition technology, offering its audiences a wide array of premium entertainment experiences.  The 19-screen Palladium cinema is the chain’s flagship property in central Texas, featuring high-end amenities including a specialty café, in-theater dining, full bar, arcade, and auditoriums powered by the latest cinema technologies.  Santikos executives’ decision to deploy Barco laser projection marks another logical and impressive step forward in their desire to lead the local cinema industry.

Barco engineering is number one
“Santikos is acting decisively to provide our patrons with the highest evolution in theater entertainment.  The communities we serve recognize and expect our commitment to the best available technologies,” comments Jahnathan Meek, Santikos’ Equipment Specialist. “We have trusted Barco as our business’ sole projection supplier, and we’re confident that their new 6P projector offers best-in-class laser engineering coupled with exacting production standards.  We also view the company’s European design as a match with our own measure of excellence.”

A strong value proposition for the future
With plans to expand their laser footprint beyond the San Antonio location, Santikos recognizes the long-term value proposition of moving from xenon-based to laser-driven illumination.  As the adoption of laser projection progresses, and pricing responds accordingly, the economic benefits will be significant over time in terms of reduced energy costs and the elimination of replacement Xenon lamps.

Bringing the CinemaBarco experience to life
The Barco laser projector is an important component of the the CinemaBarco experience, delivering the ultimate movie magic with exceptional image quality, outstanding 3D brightness and superior color performance.  Designed from the ground up, the Barco 6P laser projector features a fully integrated system with unified laser light sources housed internally, providing better durability and system efficiency than projectors built on fiber-coupled technologies. The most compact 60,000-lumen projector available, it is also the first DCI-compliant laser projector capable of showing 4K content at 60 fps and 3D movies in full 4K resolution.

“Santikos has been a great partner and we are thrilled to support them as they elevate movie image quality to an even higher level with our laser projection,” comments Patrick Lee, Vice President Digital Cinema for Barco North America. “Today’s sophisticated audiences demand a heightened entertainment experience, and Santikos can confidently deliver this with our laser solution.”

Barco will be installing its 4K laser projectors in the US, China and Europe during the current year.
