As Furious 7 continued to set records around the country with its second weekend's performance, the country's first 4DX theater located at the Regal Cinemas L.A. LIVE Stadium 14 set the pace with its own high-octane numbers for its second week.
In its second weekend on 4DX, the premier immersive movie experience incorporating fluid motion-seating and realistic environmental effects, Furious 7 clocked in at an amazing 94% weekend occupancy rate – numbers more typical of a blockbuster’s opening weekend. This pace extends Furious 7’s hot streak on 4DX, which closed out its first weekend with over 98% occupancy and then continued the first week with a 90% average occupancy rate across all 4DX. In its second week on 4DX, Furious 7 showed only a minor 22% drop in overall revenue - far smaller than the national average 59% drop rate - primarily due to the loss of late-night screenings.
“Movie-goers enthusiastically chose to visit 4DX to experience Furious 7 in a unique setting that allows you to experience every explosion and be in the driver seat for every adrenaline-pumping scene,” said Byunghwan Choi, CEO of CJ 4Dplex, the company behind 4DX.
Meanwhile worldwide, 4DX has seen more than 330,000 movie goers clamor to experience Furious 7 in the 4DX immersive format in 25 countries around the world, including the U.S., recording approximately 70% average seat occupancy rates system-wide, the highest of any 4DX title so far this year.
