XDC has been chosen by Solid Entertainment to produce 20 Digital Cinema copies of its last movie Frostbite

Solid Entertainment, a Swedish company, who produces European movies intended for a wide international audience, has decided to release 20 digital copies of its last feature “Frostbite” on the XDC network in Sweden. It makes “Frostbite” the first local production to be widely distributed in digital.

XDC, previously EVS Digital Cinema, has built in Sweden a network of more than 60 theatres equipped with DLP projectors and D-Cinema servers. This unique platform at European level is composed of both commercial and art house cinemas, which makes Sweden a pioneer country in the digital cinema development. The growing digital chain of cinemas is built on the initial digital project of Folkets Hus och Parker.

“We can already notice in Sweden the first signs of how digital cinema, thanks to the constant quality of the picture and the low transportation costs, can be advantageous to give more visibility to local or European content”, says Régis Raway, Sevices Sales Manager of XDC.

XDC works closely with the exhibitors and distributors to satisfy the needs of specific market demands. “For us, it was very important to start with as many copies as possible for the release date, and to give the possibility to the audience to see the movie in optimal conditions, even if the copies have travelled from theatre to theatre”, says Magnus Paulsson, Producer of “Frostbite”.

One of the XDC network specificity used to concretises this digital release is the possibility to generate “generic” disks, copies that can be played successively on all the XDC servers. “To support the diffusion of independent productions on our network, we have developed a technology to perpetuate on the XDC network the possibility to move a copy from one screen to another one, as it is possible for 35mm prints”, says Bernard Collard, General Manager of XDC.

Frostbiten will be released on the 24th of February.
