Thomson Introduces Complete Content Security and Data Management Solution for the Professional Environment

System To Be Displayed at NAB ‘06
Thomson (Euronext 18453; NYSE: TMS), the global technology company serving the media and entertainment industries, will unveil its comprehensive digital rights and content management package NexGuard™ at NAB 2006. Produced by the Thomson Content Security team based in the United States, France and Germany, the NexGuard™ suite of tools curtails piracy, which is a significant threat to the entertainment industry’s bottom line. NexGuard™ protects, traces and monitors digital content in the professional media environment from production to postproduction through distribution.

“Content management and security is as important to us as it is to our clients,” said Jean-Charles Hourcade, CTO, Thomson and co-head of the technology division. “By addressing the needs of the entire professional supply chain, we could develop solutions that are synergistic and efficient.”

NexGuard™ includes watermarking, encryption, controlled access and forensic data solutions that manage and secure the storage, transfer and viewing of digital content. This content includes production dailies, postproduction elements, digital intermediates, feature film and broadcast digital masters, digital cinema releases and DVD screeners. NexGuard™ also includes a content signature identification service that combats the illegal flow of entertainment titles on the Internet.

Thomson’s Content Security team leveraged internal corporate research and development, technologies from Mediasec and Nextamp, as well as ongoing partnerships, to produce NexGuard™. Thomson is claiming a leadership role in content management and security solution for the professional environment as part of its ongoing efforts to support the transition to digital production, distribution and exhibition.

Thomson’s market for NexGuard™ includes the studios; manufacturers of media and entertainment hardware, including servers; companies implementing digital cinema; and large postproduction facilities that produce content for motion picture, television and other broadcast markets. Thomson Content Security will demonstrate NexGuard’s™ capabilities at NAB booth SU844.

About NexGuard’s™ Watermarking Technology
Thomson’s watermarking technology embeds an invisible forensic mark in every frame through a data replacement process. The embedded information is linked to a database that automatically isolates the source of illegal content. In its robustness, capacity to store forensic data, and ability to yield implicating information from a small amount of footage, Thomson’s watermark exceeds the digital cinema specification requirements set by the Hollywood studio consortium, Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI).

About NexGuard’s™ Encryption Solution
NexGuard’s™ encryption solution includes a key control that limits access to content. Trusted users view decrypted materials via a secure token that is tied to a central database. Should unauthorized leakage occur, this database not only locates its source, but also delineates the personnel who have accessed the content. The NexGuard™ encryption package is compatible with all facility networks and storage mediums.

About NexGuard’s™ Content Signature Identification System
NexGuard’s™ content signature identification system employs technologies and computing power to identify entertainment titles circulating illegally on the Internet. The system operates automatically and differentiates between pirated material and fake copies bearing the same title. NexGuard™ locates the source of piracy and produces information that rightful owners use to implement a graduated response to piracy on the Web.
