Thomson's Technology Division Launches Burbank Innovation Center to Showcase Research and Products

The technology division of Thomson (Euronext 18453; NYSE: TMS), the global technology and creative services corporation, opened the doors of its Burbank Innovation Center (BIC) today to its partners and clients in the media and entertainment industries. Located at the company's Burbank campus, the Center showcases Thomson's ongoing research and innovative solutions for entertainment production, postproduction and delivery. Thomson's Technology division created the BIC to educate the industry about its tools and the products they power, to collaborate with customers throughout the technology development process, and to demonstrate the strength of the corporation's overall technology and workflow expertise.

Among the solutions on display at the BIC are: practical, disk-based and solid state storage systems for digital cinematography cameras; a production metadata communication solution; a module for the Grass Valley post-production platform Bones that provides advanced color correction capabilities; a color separation, digital restoration tool that significantly reduces the time required to restore archived film content; a soon-to-be-standardized display technology that delivers compressed content with classic film grain texture; and a scalable video coding solution that enables one broadcast stream to simultaneously deliver content for multiple platforms.

At Thomson, we not only create advanced technology solutions, we use cutting-edge tools to provide services to our clients, said Jean-Charles Hourcade, CTO Thomson. We are excited to demonstrate the fruits of our both our strategic and tactical expertise.

At the Burbank Innovation Center, we will be able to share our work in progress and gather critical feedback, added Nicholas de Wolff, VP, Marketing & Communications, Thomson. Our goal is to develop tools that address the needs of the media and entertainment industries and to support their continued advancement.

Media: For a personal appointment to tour the BIC, call Rochelle Winters at 213 250-4603 or Nicholas de Wolff at 818 260-4926.
