Kantana Thailand first in Asia to use Sony 4K projector for digital intermediate workflow
SRX-R105 SXRD 4K High Resolution Projector as colour grading tool
Kantana Group Public Company Ltd (“Kantana”) in Thailand has recently expanded its Sony production infrastructure with new high-resolution 4K projectors that will help the company capitalise on Asia’s booming TV and cinema industries.
Sony 4K SRX-R105 projectors enable Kantana to enhance the digital intermediate workflow for colour correction to deliver perfect viewing. “As a one-stop centre for television and video post-production locally and internationally, Kantana uses Sony products to stay at the cutting-edge of technology and lead the industry,” said Surachedh Kaewthanakan, Senior Executive Vice President of Kantana Group Public Company Limited. “Now, with the addition of these 4K resolution projectors, we are Asia’s first post-production house to utilise Sony 4K projectors for digital intermediate workflow.”
Kantana currently employs 1,500 people in Thailand and internationally. With 55 years’ experience in the entertainment industry, the company is one of the region’s leading full-service production companies for the television, feature film, and broadcast industries. It now services key accounts in over 30 countries worldwide, including major Hollywood studios.
A position of strength
With its extensive suite of Sony HD production tools, Kantana Thailand is now in a stronger position than ever before to provide HDTV and HD video production for customers both locally and throughout the Asia Pacific market. “With our latest acquisitions, combined with our existing selection of high-end Sony equipment, we can achieve ideal viewing conditions by enhancing the digital intermediate workflow for colour correction,” Kaewthanakan continued. “This helps us seize new opportunities in Thailand’s fast-growing film industry, while also serving customers internationally.”
“HDCAM™ is a superb carrying media for Digital Intermediate transfers because it lets us make full colour correction, add graphics and preview, back up tapes, and down convert to other formats in real time,” said Yasushi Yamamoto, General Manager of the Marketing and Engineering Division at Broadcast & Professional Pacific Asia Company, a division of Sony Corporation of Hong Kong Ltd. “We designed the SXRD™ projector to display the highest-quality, most visually stunning video images in the highest resolution. It is going to create a new revenue stream by taking us to a world of high-end video presentation, from Digital Cinema and theatrical displays to religious worship, concerts and distance learning.”
Setting a new standard for technical excellence
The Sony SRX-R110 and SRX-R105 projectors are equipped with three Silicon X-tal Reflective Display (SXRD™) imaging devices, delivering an amazing resolution of 4096 x 2160 pixels (H x V) – more than 4 times the resolution of full HDTV (1920 x 1080, 16:9 wide screen format) – and meeting the “4K” quality resolution level stipulated by the Digital Cinema Initiative (DCI). In addition to their high contrast ratio and superior brightness, the use of dual Xenon lamps and a gamma curve of 2.6 – also recommended by the DCI as the standard for Digital Cinema – allow the SRX-R110 and the SRX-R105 to offer pure, high-quality colour tonal reproduction reminiscent of film.
“The SRX-R110 and SRX-R105 are designed to offer multiple screen capabilities with excellent input signal flexibility,” explained Yasushi Yamamoto. “It’s exciting to see that these sophisticated HD technologies are now helping forward-thinking companies like Kantana Thailand gain a powerful new edge in Asia’s dynamic HD markets.
