Atlab integrates Digital 3D into Hoyts Cinemas

Hoyts Australia is equipping four of its Cinemas with Christie CP2000 DLP Cine Projectors for the playback of 3D digital content.

In conjunction with Christie Digital, Atlab Image and Sound Technology (AI&ST) is integrating the DLP Cinema™ hardware into the existing projection and sound infrastructure at Hoyts cinemas in Melbourne [Northland], Canberra [Belconnen], Perth [Carousel] and Sydney [Penrith].

Bob Lucas AI&ST's Senior Technical Manager is spearheading the digital installations.

"Our wealth of experience in the cinema projection room environment puts AI&ST in a unique position to make sure the integration of digital projection is seamless and painless for the exhibitor." says Lucas.

In addition to installing the Christie CP2000 projectors, AI&ST has supplied and installed Hi-gain Harkness Spectral 240 screen surfaces and additional projection ports for the Digital Projectors. AI&ST is also coordinating the electrical and air conditioning works required for the installation of the digital projection equipment.

"We have first hand knowledge of traditional cinema hardware, and we are fully trained and competent in digital cinema hardware. That is a definite advantage to our customers with an installation of this type," says Lucas.

"The cinema environment is definitely not plug and play", adds Lucas, "but we know how to combine cutting edge digital projection equipment with sound and automation systems that have been in use for many years."

From October 31, audiences wearing state of the art 3D glasses will be transported by digital projection directly to the 3D centre of Halloween Town in Tim Burton's The Nightmare before Christmas.
