NEC Corporation of America today announced it is supporting the Technicolor Digital Cinema rollout through the installation of its NEC STARUS™ NC2500S Digital Cinema projector in three of the premiere movie theatres known to the Hollywood film industry. NEC’s STARUS NC2500S, the world’s brightest projector with DLP Cinema® technology from Texas Instruments®, will be projecting Hollywood’s hottest premieres at Mann’s Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, Mann’s Village Theatre in Westwood, and ArcLight Cinema’s Cinerama Dome in Hollywood.
“NEC is honored that Technicolor has selected our digital cinema projectors for installation in these impressive theatres,” said Kurt Schwenk, general manager, Digital Cinema Division of NEC Corporation of America. “We are excited that our projectors will help deliver an unparalleled visual experience for audiences and we expect our top-of-the-line projectors to leave a superior and lasting impression at these top three LA premiere sites.”
Mann’s Grauman’s Chinese Theatre is world-famous for the time-honored tradition of Hollywood’s biggest celebrities leaving their foot and hand impressions on the theatre’s courtyard. The theatre, which was opened in 1927, is one of Los Angeles’ most recognized and visited landmarks and has been home to countless world movie premieres.
“Once we viewed the STARUS NC2500S we realized that NEC had really set a new standard for brightness and picture clarity,” said Peter Dobson, CEO, Mann Theatres. “Our audiences are looking for an exceptional experience, and NEC helps us achieve a superior quality movie experience.”
Mann’s Village Theatre and ArcLight Cinema’s Cinerama Dome have hosted some of Hollywood’s biggest premieres, and have dazzled moviegoers for over a half century. Both the Village Theatre, established in 1931, and the Cinerama Dome, established in 1963, have undergone tremendous technical transformations throughout the years to provide first-class cinematic experiences.
The Mann Theatres circuit also installed NEC Digital Cinema projectors in two other premiere locations - Mann Criterion in Santa Monica and Mann Bruin in Westwood.
NEC’s partnership with Technicolor Digital Cinema, which has contributed to the recent technical advancement of these movie theatres, was instrumental in establishing the STARUS NC2500S as the projector of choice.
“NEC’s Digital Cinema projectors have continued to impress the Technicolor Digital Cinema team with the quality and brightness of the picture,” said Joe Berchtold, president, Technicolor Digital Cinema. “These premiere movie theatres now have yet another reason to make them a top choice for people looking for a quality movie experience.”
NEC’s STARUS NC2500S is the world’s brightest DLP Cinema projector for large-sized screens 49 feet wide or larger. Delivering 2K resolution and high contrast ratios (2000:1), the STARUS NC2500S Digital Cinema projector is easy to operate and requires minimal maintenance. It can easily achieve the industry required standard of 14 foot lamberts on the largest cinema screens casting a remarkable digital image and delivering amplified brightness, sharper graphics and eye-catching color.
The complete family of STARUS Digital Cinema projectors also includes the STARUS NC1500C for medium-sized movie screens, and the STARUS NC800C for smaller theatres, screening rooms, and post-production facilities.
