Doremi Selected for Odeon UK Digital Launch
Doremi Cinema, the cinema industry's leading supplier of JPEG 2000 servers, has been selected to participate in a major UK digital cinema rollout by Odeon/UCI, the UK and Europe's largest exhibitor.
The launch, at Odeon's nine-screen multiplex, Surrey Quays, London, is set for early February and is significant as it marks the first digital outfitting of an entire multiplex in the UK. It includes a central LMS theatre automation system and a TMS library management system server. Both TMS and LMS functions are described in the DCI 1.0 recommendations to provide multiplexes with flexible centralised ingest, scheduling and monitoring tools. The installation is also notable for not being government subsidised or part of a third-party trial. Instead, the launch represents a major initiative by the exhibitor to advance the real world business case for digital cinema deployment.
Doremi is supporting the installations with comprehensive training and maintenance as well as ongoing monitoring and customer management inside the UK. This latest and highly prestigious agreement with Odeon/UCI sees Doremi penetrate a new market, continuing its success in the US and elsewhere. Globally, the company has surpassed 2,000 installations with its DCI-conforming DCP-2000 JPEG 2000/MPEG2 MXF server.
Doremi Cinema's UK Business Development Manager, Marc John, commented, "Since expanding into the UK just last year we've worked hard to demonstrate that our company is ready and able to serve the UK to the highest DCI standards. Odeon/UCI is an important and forward-thinking exhibitor and we are very motivated to show that our product and levels of customer care meet the highest possible expectations."
Doremi's European Managing Director, Patrick Zucchetta, said: "Following the success of the AIX rollout in the USA with Doremi DCP-2000 cinema players, we are very proud to participate in the first major digital cinema JPEG 2000 DCI pilot platform in the UK. The decision by Odeon/UCI, the UK and Europe's largest exhibitor, to select Doremi Cinema is another example of the technology leadership of our solutions."
About the DCP-2000
The Doremi Cinema DCP-2000 was the first commercially available server capable of playing DCI conforming JPEG 2000 digital movies at up to 250Mb/s. Doremi continues to add advanced features to keep it comfortably ahead of the competition. Some of these features include 4K and 3D playback, CineLink II strong link encryption, Thomson's NexGuard and Philips' CineFence Forensic Watermarking making the DCP-2000 the most secure server on the market.
The DCP-2000 features 800GBytes of RAID-5 storage in a 3RU chassis with redundant power supplies, and includes the CineLister software for easy movie clip and play list administration. The DCP-2000 is currently the most installed JPEG 2000 server with over 2,000 installations worldwide.
