Digital Cinema: New Business Opportunities For Producers

Pan-European producers’ association ACE have partnered with Met Film & TV, the HD post-production specialists, to host a one-day conference on the impact of digital technologies across the industry, from production through to distribution and exhibition. The event is being held in conjunction with the UK Film Council and Skillset and is sponsored by Arts Alliance Media and the Gate Cinema.

This event will be held on 25 April 2007 at The Gate Cinema in Notting Hill, London. It is designed exclusively for producers and will examine the evolving impact of digital technologies, and the opportunities the changes bring, both in the UK and across Europe.

The day will be co-hosted by Judy Counihan, the Oscar-winning producer and ex-Director of Film at Skillset, and Luke Montagu, CEO of Met Film & TV. Luke commented: “This event will avoid the theory and look at the current practice of filmmakers and distributors already working in the digital domain. We’ll also focus on the way technology is increasing access to audiences, and how producers need to adapt to these changes.”

Specific topic areas include new production and post-production workflows, digital cinema exhibition (including the latest from the UKFC Digital Screen Network), low budget business models, the new shape of distribution as well as the controversial closing of release windows.

Laura Gragg, a member of the ACE committee, comments: “From listening to our members it is clear that producers are increasingly interested to learn more about digital cinema and what it might mean for their business. Being a European organisation, it was logical for us to host the first event on this subject in London before rolling out similar events across other European territories. We are delighted to be working with Met Film & TV, along with Arts Alliance Media – they were the most logical partners given their extensive knowledge both of digital cinema as well as the UK Film Industry”.
