Dolby Showcases Digital Cinema Exhibition and Postproduction Solutions at ShowEast 2007

At ShowEast today, Dolby Laboratories, Inc. (NYSE: DLB) announced it is demonstrating digital cinema exhibition and postproduction solutions at the Orlando World Center Marriott in Orlando, Florida, booth 900.

“Dolby® Digital Cinema products for exhibitors and postproduction facilities bring an exceptional level of reliability and innovation to the industry,” said Bill Jasper, President, Director, and Chief Executive Officer, Dolby Laboratories. “I am proud to say that Dolby recently received from the National Institute of Standards and Technology its Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 Level 3 validation certificate for the Dolby Digital Cinema server. Not only do new installations meet these requirements but studios and exhibitors can be assured that none of their existing installations will need to be retrofitted, as all of the Dolby Digital Cinema servers in the marketplace meet the FIPS standard.”

At the booth, Dolby is displaying its digital cinema products and its newest technologies that enable exhibitors and postproduction facilities alike to make the future of digital cinema a reality today:

Dolby Digital Cinema
Dolby Show Store, Dolby Show Player, and Dolby Show Manager Dolby Digital Cinema features a complete digital system for storing, managing, and playing digital movies. Built to ensure the highest levels of quality and security in the industry, Dolby Digital Cinema provides exhibitors with superior technology and customer support. The Dolby Digital Cinema server was recently awarded the FIPS Level 3 certification for reaching the highest levels of security specified by the Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI).

Dolby Show Library
Dolby Show Library allows exhibitors to load digital content from a central server via Ethernet, USB 2.0, satellite, DVD, or removable hard drive. The easy-to-use system dispenses the files electronically and unattended to networked Dolby Digital Cinema systems throughout the multiplex. The theatre operator can easily program the entire movie schedule, including onscreen advertising, by using the drag-and-drop Dolby Show Manager software interface.

SCC2000 Secure Content Creator
Designed to work as a stand-alone unit or integrated into current postproduction and digital intermediate systems, the Dolby SCC2000 enables efficient 2K and 4K JPEG 2000 encoding for all digital cinema content. To minimize start-up costs and complexities, the system is offered as part of a complete package including equipment rental, training, and ongoing support. The option for generating secure keys offers key delivery message (KDM) creation and management via the CosmosTM digital cinema database, operated by Dolby content-protection subsidiary Cinea, Inc.

Dolby 3D
Dolby 3D’s unique solution offers exhibitors an easy-to-implement and cost-effective solution, as no special “silver screen” is required. Dolby 3D uses a unique color filter technology that provides very realistic color reproduction and produces crystal-clear images. Additionally, Dolby’s 3D glasses are reusable, eliminating the need to reorder disposable glasses and minimizing environmental impact.

The Dolby 3D color filter wheel assembly and the DFC100 (controller for the filter wheel) are in the booth to show exhibitors how a digital cinema projector can be easily upgraded to Dolby 3D.

Dolby Cinema Products

CP650DC
The Dolby CP650DC contains the popular operational features, reliability, and renowned quality of the Dolby CP650 designed specifically for digital cinema presentation cinemas. The new configuration allows replay between conventional digital cinema multichannel 5.1 or 6.1 (Dolby Digital Surround EXTM) soundtracks, along with Dolby Digital bitstream decoding. In addition, it provides global audio delay for correct synchronization and the option of internal active crossovers for either two-way or three-way main outputs for optimum dynamic range.

DMA8Plus
The Dolby DMA8Plus Digital Media Adapter is a cost-effective and flexible solution for interfacing digital cinema and alternative content sources to existing cinema sound systems. Based on the Dolby DMA8, the unit accepts four independent digital inputs with up to eight channels of PCM digital audio from sources such as digital cinema servers, preshow advertising servers, DVDs, satellite, and alternative content sources. It also accommodates other audio coding formats from nonfilm sources, including PCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby E, Dolby Pro Logic®, and Dolby Pro Logic II. Six analog output channels ensure straightforward interface with a cinema's existing Dolby sound processor.
