First CineAlta-4K digital cinema installation in Germany
CINEPLEX Münster installs complete digital solution from Sony
The CINEPLEX Münster is the first cinema in Germany to install a digital projection system with the highest resolution of 4K (4,,096 x 2,,160 pixels) demanded by the DCI specifications of the Hollywood studios. This cinema, which is one of the most successful Multiplex cinemas in Germany, will be one of the first in Europe to operate such an installation, initially on a test basis for commercial screenings.
"We are convinced that the future of cinema lies in 4K projection. We are therefore very proud to be the first German cinema to be able to present our audiences with digital images at 4K resolution. The quality is truly breathtaking – although this is not the only reason that we will support this technology in future” stresses Felix Esch, CEO of the CINEPLEX cinema in Münster.
The installation is a collaboration between the CINEPLEX cinema in Münster and Sony, currently the only supplier of series-produced 4K projection solutions, and supported by Film-Ton-Technik Hannsdieter Rüttgers GmbH (FTT) Düsseldorf. As well as a Sony CineAlta 4K projector it also includes a Sony Media Block, with comprehensive rights-management in line with the specifications of the Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI) from Hollywood's leading film studios. “The technology installed in Münster was specially developed to cater for the increased demands of the digital cinema era“, explains Egon Gräfen, for the management of FTT. “As a company working in the field of D-Cinema we are very impressed with the quality of the technology and are pleased to have successfully implemented the first 4K system in Germany together with our partners CINEPLEX and Sony .“
German Cinema Premiere: Press Event on 16.11.2007
On Friday, 16 November the CineAlta 4K projection system in the Münster CINEPLEX had its premiere in the context of an exclusive screening for the press. The journalists were able to obtain first hand information about the present state of digital cinema projection, the quality of 4K, and the technology used.
