Barco and AHL Group Technology Commence Digital Cinema Roll-Out in Australia, New Zealand, Germany and United Arab Emirates

Barco, a global leader in digital cinema technology, is proud to announce that it has entered into an agreement with Amalgamated Holdings Limited (AHL) for the exclusive supply of its new DP2K projectors in Australia, New Zealand, Germany and the United Arab Emirates.

Under the terms of the agreement, Amalgamated Holdings Limited (AHL) will install 150 digital cinema projectors in 2010, with a planned expansion to a total of 1,100 screens world-wide over the next three to four years.

“The digital cinema market in Australia is growing rapidly and Barco is pleased to be part of it,” comments Peter Della Tolla, managing director of Barco Systems in Australia. “AHL is just one of the many ongoing installations in this region, and we are confident many more will follow.”

“Barco has always been at the forefront of digital cinema with numerous unique innovations and industry-firsts, such as a sealed optical engine, true modular design and commonality of spares. This global deal with AHL, the fifth largest exhibitor worldwide, is further proof that the market has absolute confidence in our technology concepts driving profitability within the cinema,” says Wim Buyens, vice president of Barco's digital cinema business.

“AHL's investment in digital projection for our cinemas is part of the many improvements we will be making with our improved product offering. Our agreement with Barco shows how truly confident we are in Barco as both a solution provider and business partner in our rapid growth,” says AHL CEO David Seargeant.

Supporting 2D and 3D projection, Barco's six new DP2K projectors represent, by far, the most complete projector family available today. In addition to advances in software, diagnostics and patented cooling technology, all DP2K projectors include enhanced security features as mandated by the Digital Cinema Initiative (DCI). All of Barco's digital cinema projectors are based on the pioneering DLP Cinema® technology from Texas Instruments, guaranteeing perfect reproduction of film, time and time again, and ensuring that movie-goers enjoy the highest quality film experience with consistent picture brightness, contrast and vibrant colors.
