Christie Leads Asia’s First Commercial 2K Screening

Christie Partners with SF Cinema City for first 2K digital screening in Thailand

Christie, first in DLP Cinema™ projection, is proud to announce it will be partnering with Thailand-based SF Cinema City Co Ltd (SF Cinema City) in Asia’s first commercial 2K digital screening on October 3, 2003. Scheduled to take place in Bangkok’s SFX Cinema, this collaborative event will be using the Christie CP2000-H featuring Texas Instruments’ 2K-resolution DLP Cinema™ technology, to screen “Finding Nemo”.

“Through our research activities, we’ve observed the visible advantages of the 2K technology in terms of consistency and clarity when compared to film medium and the existing 1.2K format. These benefits swiftly prompted us to become the first in Thailand to install the 2K projector,” says Suvannee Chinchiewchan, Deputy Managing Director, SF Cinema City. “This screening is a significant event as we will be showcasing the most superior resolution quality currently available to our audience in Thailand. We’re pleased to be able to work with Christie on this event and we hope to forge an even closer alliance with them in the near future.”

As one of the leading cinema chain owners in Thailand, SF Cinema City has recently chosen its signature theater- -the 9 screen SFX cinema Central Ladprao to be the site for Christie CP2000-H unit installation, which was successfully completed by Christie’s Thai Partner, Mahajak Arrays International in late September 2003. This installation reflects SF Cinema City’s constant commitment in creating an enhanced theatre-going experience to its audience by providing the most sophisticated cinema equipment. The unit will be utilized solely for the digital screening of blockbusters, mainstream and art films in SFX’s 550-seat Cinema Six.

“Thailand's movie audience is very discerning about their movie-going experience. They have high expectations in terms of ambience as well as picture and sound quality”, remarks Christie Lim, Regional Sales Manager for Cinema, Christie Digital Systems Asia. “The 2K technology with its excellent resolution and consistent playback will bring the in-theatre experience for this audience to new heights. As well as view the latest Hollywood productions in line with US release dates, audiences can also view alternative content such as live concerts, sporting events and similar entertainment. We’re glad to support SF Cinema City, one of the finest cinemas in Thailand, in this collaboration to present our 2K projector and illustrate the versatility of this new digital breakthrough.”
