ScreenX Comes to First U.S. Theatre with Feature Film – the Himalayas – to Start the New Year
Premium 270 Cinema Experience Making U.S. Premiere at CGV Cinemas Los Angeles on January 1, 2016
ScreenX, the world’s first multi-projection system that allows theater-goers to go beyond the frame of the movie screen by extending the images onto the theater walls, is making its official U.S. premiere on January 1, 2016. Created by South Korean conglomerate CJ group – the company that previously introduced 4DX around the world, including in the U.S. – ScreenX is the next evolution in theater technology. It immerses the audience into a 270-degree viewing environment that utilizes three sides of the theatre to express more of the story and provide a panoramic experience.
The first public availability of ScreenX in the U.S. will rolled out at CGV Cinemas Los Angeles. Fans will have the opportunity to screen The Himalayas, the film that is topping Star Wars: The Force Awakens at the South Korean box office. Since its release on December 16, the same opening weekend as The Force Awakens, one of the year’s most anticipated films, “The Himalayas” has taken home 35.7 billion Won ($30,477,804 USD) and has seen 4,592,435 in admissions at the box office. Star Wars has tallied 22.8 billion Won ($19,452,276 USD) and 2,629,434 in admissions.* The film is an inspiring and heart-wrenching feature film based on a true story, in ScreenX, beginning January 1, with tickets now available to be pre-ordered atwww.cgvcinemas.com.

The Himalayas follows a South Korean expedition team and their harrowing final mission to bring their friend and teammate’s body back from the treacherous slopes of Mt. Everest where he died years after being part of the 14th team to ever scale the iconic mountain. Starring one of the finest actors in the Korean film industry, HWANG Jung-min (Ode to My Father) – as well as one of its most promising up-and-coming talents, JUNG Woo (C’est Si Bon), The Himalayas tells a beautiful tale of the power of friendship’s ability to overcome all obstacles. The Himalayas is directed by LEE Suk-hoon, known for 2014’s swashbuckling comedy The Pirates, one of the top 20 most-watched films of all time in Korea.
Since debuting in 2012, ScreenX has quickly grown its Asian business, currently operating more than 75 screens in 44 locations in South Korea and one in Bangkok. It was showcased exclusively for industry attendees of CinemaCon earlier this year.

ScreenX is the world's first multi-projection system used within a theatre setting. It was created in 2012 by CJ CGV, part of South Korean conglomerate CJ Group, as one of the “next cinema formats” along with 4DX, the multisensory cinema technology with motion and environmental effects. ScreenX allows moviegoers to go beyond the frame of the movie screen by utilizing a proprietary system that expands images of feature films and pre-show advertising to create an immersive, panoramic, 270-degree format that projects onto three theatre walls. To date, ScreenX has been installed in 119 screens around the world, including 84 screens at 49 locations in South Korea; 26 screens in China; 3 in the United States; 2 in Turkey and Vietnam and 1 in both Thailand and Indonesia.
