NEC Solutions America Delivers Industry’s First DCI-Compliant Multiplex
Server System at Showest 2006
STARUS JPEG2000 Screen Server Completes System to Enable System Management
Anywhere
NEC Solutions (America), Inc. today announced
at ShoWest 2006 the availability of the industry's first DCI-compliant
multiplex-wide digital cinema management and movie playout solution.
NEC's STARUS™ Digital Cinema solution, powered by the STARUS fault tolerant hub
server and the STARUS JPEG2000 screen server, allows operation from anywhere
within the multiplex. Smart design makes error reporting, troubleshooting, and
system management simple and fast for local technicians or remote support sites
without compromising content security.
"NEC's STARUS Digital Cinema server system allows content to be moved between
screens faster, which minimizes the challenge that multiplexes face on Thursday
nights," said Harry Mathias, director of digital cinema technology, Digital
Cinema Division of NEC Solutions America. "NEC was the first to design a
multiplex-wide system capable of supporting any required number of screens
making this the most scalable and reliable system in the industry."
NEC Solutions America is showcasing its STARUS JPEG2000 screen server, as well
as the full STARUS Digital Cinema solution and ADVASuite™ In-Theatre Advertising
system, at the ShoWest 2006 Conference in Las Vegas, March 14 - 16, in Palace
Rooms 4 and 5.
The new STARUS JPEG2000 screen server complements the recently announced family
of STARUS Digital Cinema projectors with DLP Cinema® technology from Texas
Instruments®. The complete solution expands NEC's position in the entertainment
and post-production markets by serving as a single source for digital cinema
systems.
Robust STARUS Digital Cinema Server System
The DCI-compliant STARUS Digital Cinema server system supports the full
security requirements outlined in the DCI (Digital Cinema Initiative)
specification. As the only "virtual" control system on the market, it allows
operation from anywhere in the cinema multiplex to any screen within the
multiplex.
Combining state-of-the-art technology with ease of use, NEC's STARUS Digital
Cinema server software incorporates the cinema industry's own language in the
user interface, minimizing training requirements. The STARUS JPEG2000 screen and
STARUS multiplex-wide hub servers are designed for easy installation and
manageability. The hub server also provides up to 99.999% availability with a
fully redundant fault tolerant system, which enables the JPEG2000 screen servers
to continue running scheduled movies even in the case of a total network and
central server system outage.
