Barco exclusive supplier of digital projectors at 57th Berlin International Film Festival
Barco, a global leader in digital cinema, is delighted to have been chosen as the official supplier of digital cinema projectors at the 57th Berlin International Film Festival. For the third consecutive time, Barco is the sole supplier of digital cinema projectors at the Festival.
The 57th Berlin International Film Festival takes place from 8 until 18 February. During the ten-day festival, 373 films will be screened on locations throughout the city, attracting more than 400,000 visitors. Barco’s 2K digital cinema projectors, based on Texas Instruments DLP Cinema® Technology, will be used for digital screening in four theatres in and around Berlin: the Berlinale Palast, International, Urania and Admiralspalast.
A highlight of this year’s festival is the world premiere of Fassbinder’s Berlin Alexanderplatz. This film, which marks the 25th anniversary of the death of Germany’s most successful post-war director, has been painstakingly restored and digitally re-mastered and will be shown in the Admiralspalast, equipped with a Barco DP-100 projector specifically for this special occasion.
“We are delighted to have BARCO 2K projectors on board for our digital screenings says Dieter Kosslick, Festival Director. “The screenings of “The Good German” by Steven Soderbergh and “I am a Cyborg, but that’s OK” by Park Chan-wook will have their international gala premiere in our Berlinale Palast on Feb. 9th”
Nico Vernieuwe, VP Events and Digital Cinema of Barco’s Media and Entertainment division states: “The Berlin Film Festival is one of the major events on the international film calendar and we are delighted to be selected, once again, as its official supplier. The percentage of digital screenings increases every year, and Barco is proud to enable film makers to show their work without the slightest compromise on quality”.
The pioneering DLP Cinema® technology from Texas Instruments, which is used in all of Barco’s 2K digital cinema projectors, guarantees perfect re-production of film, time and time again, and ensures movie goers enjoy the highest quality film experience with consistent picture brightness, contrast and vibrant colors. Barco holds one of only three exclusive licenses of TI’s DLP Cinema® technology.
