4K Resolution Cinema Quality Projector
Sony is proud to introduce an ultra-high resolution projector, the SRX-R220, designed specifically for digital cinema applications. The Silicon X-tal Reflective Display (SXRDTM) imaging devices used in the SRX-R220 projector make it possible to realize its extremely high 4K (4096 H x 2160 V pixels) resolution, which is stipulated by the Digital Cinema Initiatives, LLC (DCI). It also provides a brightness level of SMPTE standard 14 ft-L on a 20-meter (65.6-feet) wide screen and a high contrast ratio of 2000:1.

At today’s European Premiere of Sony Pictures’ highly anticipated film <em>2012</em>, which happened at the Cinestar cinema in the Sony Center, Potsdamer Platz, the filmmakers, cast, and guests in Berlin saw the film with Sony Professional’s state-of-the-art CineAlta-4K digital projection system, which features four times the resolution of traditional Full-HD and 2K digital projectors.

The growing list of feature-length motion pictures to be distributed in 4K resolution now includes “Hancock,” the new action-comedy movie starring Will Smith. The Sony Pictures Entertainment movie, which opens in the U.S. and worldwide on July 2, will be shown in 4K resolution on more than 20 screens using Sony’s 4K digital cinema projection systems.

“Reach for Me,” the first feature-length motion picture to be shot and produced entirely in 4K, will be screened tonight on Sony’s 4K Digital Cinema Projection System. Directed by LeVar Burton and produced by AMediaVision Productions, the movie was captured using DALSA’s Origin 4K cinematography camera, with 4K image processing and digital intermediate (DI) managed by Post Logic.

First CineAlta-4K digital cinema installation in Germany
The CINEPLEX Münster is the first cinema in Germany to install a digital projection system with the highest resolution of 4K (4,,096 x 2,,160 pixels) demanded by the DCI specifications of the Hollywood studios. This cinema, which is one of the most successful Multiplex cinemas in Germany, will be one of the first in Europe to operate such an installation, initially on a test basis for commercial screenings.

Sony to Install SXRD 4K Digital Cinema Systems in Four New AMC Theatres
Sony Electronics is equipping four of AMC Theatres' new movie theatres with CineAlta™ SXRD™ 4K digital cinema systems. Sony will provide 54 SXRD 4K digital cinema systems at new AMC theatres in Dallas (12 screens); Indianapolis (14 screens); Riverside, Calif. (16 screens); and San Diego (12 screens). Work will begin next month, with the theaters scheduled to open in December.
