Christie DCP-H Digital Cinema Projector Expands Digital Offerings for Singapore’s Mega Films
Singapore’s First Digital Services Provider Banks on Christie Quality and Service in Growing Subtitling Business
Christie, first in DLP Cinema™ projection, is
proud to announce Singapore-based Mega Films Singapore Pte Ltd, the country’s
only subtitling specialist and backroom services provider, has purchased a
Christie DCP-H Digital Cinema projector for Mega Films’ expanding digital
subtitling projects. With this new purchase, Mega Films enters into the digital
domain by offering subtitling services for digital commercial releases and
advertisements to film distributors in Singapore.
Established in 1989, Mega Films began offering conventional ‘printing press’
subtitling services and in 1995, the company tapped into laser subtitling
technology. In December 2004, it decided to move onto the digital platform with
the acquisition of a Christie DCP-H projector for its new 40m x 5m (131ft x
16ft) digital screening room. Equipped with a GDC Server and a 4.2m x 1.8m
(13.8ft x 5.9ft) Harkness Hall screen, Mega Films is now able to use this new
facility to offer subtitling services for digital releases ensuring accurate
subtitling placement during playback.
“Subtitling digital films and advertisements is slightly different from working
with conventional 35mm films and you’ll definitely need a Digital Cinema
projector and server to check on the accuracy of the subtitles and their
placement,” comments Jessie Chia, managing director, Mega Films Enterprises Pte
Ltd. “In this case, we selected Christie instead of the other brands as we felt
Christie offers excellent technical and after-sales support. This gave us a
boost of confidence as we underwent the analogue-to-digital transition.”
As Singapore’s sole subtitling facility, Mega Films works with all the film
distributors in Singapore, namely Golden Village Pictures, Buena Vista
International, Fox-Warner, Columbia TriStar, Cathay-Keris, Sony Pictures
Entertainment, Lighthouse Pictures, United Pictures International and Shaw
Organization to provide subtitles for their English, Hindi and Chinese
commercial and art house film releases.
“As an active participant in the Singapore film industry, we feel it’s important
for us to invest in new technology and train those in the industry to help
propel the growth of digital technology in Singapore,” adds Chia.
“The installation at Mega Films clearly demonstrates the versatility of our DCP-H;
making it suitable for post-production and subtitling facilities,” says Christie
Lim, regional sales manager, Cinema Portfolio, Christie. “The DCP-H with its
high contrast display provides incredible film-like image quality and it also
offers complete compatibility with HDTV standards with superior image
uniformity. This makes it an industry choice for those who want to harness the
power of DLP Cinema technology.”
