Dolby Laboratories Showcases Digital Cinema Products at Cinema Expo 2005
Company celebrates fortieth anniversary year
Dolby Laboratories (NYSE: DLB) today announced that at
Cinema Expo (27-30 June in Amsterdam) it will demonstrate the full Dolby®
Digital Cinema presentation system and its new digital cinema trailer,
Countdown. Dolby will also celebrate its fortieth anniversary at the show in
booth 161. Displays will provide an overview of the company's four decades of
entertainment innovations, demonstrate one of its latest technologies, Dolby
ScreenTalk™, and display its core lines of reliable, flexible, and innovative
cinema products.
While the digital cinema market continues to evolve, Dolby is leveraging its
respected entertainment, research, and engineering heritage to provide
compelling digital cinema solutions. The Dolby Digital Cinema system to be
demonstrated at this year's expo has already powered more than 2,000 shows at
sites across the world. It has also been chosen by studios for high-profile
screenings including Star Wars Episode III: The Return of the Sith™ and Sin
City, as well as being used at international film festivals such as Cannes and
Telluride.
The system is supported by the work done at Dolby Laboratories' digital
mastering facilities in Europe and the US, where films including The Magic
Roundabout, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and Star Wars Episode III: The
Return of the Sith have been prepared so that audiences can enjoy the latest
advances in moviegoing technology.
"Our products and technologies are designed to serve studios and exhibitors
alike and lead them into the digital future," said Jason Power, Market
Development Manager, Dolby Laboratories. "Dolby is celebrating 40 years of
technological advancements at the show, highlighting innovative products that
continue to solve problems, but are still flexible and reliable, and are
designed and built specifically for today's cinemas."
The company will be demonstrating Dolby ScreenTalk, a cinema subtitling and
audio enhancing system that provides full-color digital subtitles via a video
projector or an alternative subtitling device over any standard 35 mm film with
a Dolby Digital soundtrack. The system also provides audio commentary for the
visually impaired, using the cinema's wireless headphone system.
Over 100 Dolby ScreenTalk systems have been sold across Europe and positive
feedback has been received from trials held in France, Germany, and Switzerland.
More than 200 films are now available with Dolby ScreenTalk audio description
and subtitling.
