Christie Digital Systems, Inc., a major provider of visual solutions for business, entertainment and media, today announced that it has installed a Christie DCP-H digital cinema projection system at the USC School of
Cinema-Television, which is at the forefront of teaching art and entertainment
and is committed to new digital technologies.
The system’s configuration and installation were donated to the school by
Christie, who also donated a Christie Cine-IPM image processor to display
content from any standard video source, including broadcast television,
satellite, business presentations and HDTV sources. Dedication ceremonies for
the system will be held at Frank Sinatra Hall in the Norris Theatre Complex
before a class of nearly 400 students. Famed director and producer George Lucas
will screen his action-adventure tour-de-force “Star Wars: Episode 1 - The
Phantom Menace,” which was hailed by critics for its groundbreaking use of
visual effects. Lucas will also participate in a Q&A conducted by professor Dr.
Drew Casper.
The Christie DCP-H digital cinema projector, donated by Texas Instruments,
utilizes advancements in DLP Cinema (tm) technology. It is one of a handful of
digital exhibition technologies embraced by Hollywood for its ability to offer a
truly cinematic experience for digital movies.
“We are very grateful for Christie’s generous contribution of services in the
installation of this digital cinema system,” said Dean Elizabeth Daley, USC
School of Cinema-Television. “Our school prides itself on its leadership role in
educating the next generation of creative cinema, television and interactive
media students. Mr. Lucas is a fitting representative to receive the projector
on our behalf because, he is a leading champion of digital filmmaking and
exhibition.”
“Christie is pleased to contribute its technical expertise for this important
occasion,” said Craig Sholder, senior director, business development and cinema
sales, Christie. “The USC School of Cinema-Television is one of the many
educational institutions that we proudly support through our donation of
products, services and technical assistance
