Barco and Cinemeccanica announce worldwide agreement
urther to the announcement of the signing
of its Letter of Intent at ShoWest, Barco Digital Cinema has now officially
signed a worldwide contract with Cinemeccanica to develop and commercialize an
OEM digital cinema solution incorporating Barco’s 2k technology, based on TI’s
DLP CinemaTM technology.
The agreement marks Cinemeccanica’s formal entry into the digital cinema market
following a long and successful history as one of the world’s leading providers
of 35mm projectors, and after a year in which the company has experienced an
increasing demand for digital cinema solutions and successfully completed its
pioneering digital cinema installation in Bratislava, Slovakia.
With its headquarters in Milan, Italy, and more than ninety sales offices all
over the world, Cinemeccanica will concentrate on sales through their authorized
sales channels in the established and emerging European territories.
Commenting on the agreement to work with Cinemeccanica, Sjoerd De Clerck,
Managing Director of Barco Digital Cinema, stated: “We are delighted to support
Cinemeccanica in this first step into their digital solution. We welcome their
entry into the digital business at this time and are looking forward to sharing
in its success.”
Confirming that Cinemeccanica’s decision was driven by an increasing number of
requests from its traditional Exhibitor customer base Vittore Nicelli, Managing
Director, added that “Cinemeccanica is delighted to be cooperating with Barco
and looks forward to enhancing its customer relations though the strengthening
of its range and providing the benefit of its experience in both 35mm and
digital solutions.”
The Cinemeccanica CMC D2 Digital Projector, available as of January 2005, will
be co-branded recognizing Barco as the sole proprietor of the DLP CinemaTM
technology and will adhere to all related technical and commercial obligations.
