Vue Entertainment Reports 50 Per Cent Increase in Number of People Attending Event Cinema Screenings and Expects Admits to Double in 2014
Vue Entertainment today reports record numbers of people attending its event cinema screenings with a 50 per cent increase in 2013. What’s more, the multiplex cinema chain expects the demand for opera, ballet, theatre, music and sporting event screenings to continue, with the number of admits projected to double this year.
The news comes as the National Theatre’s highly-acclaimed production of War Horseprepares to hit the big screen live on 27th February nationwide. And Vue Entertainment prepares as thousands of people are expected to flock to their local cinema to see the impressive life-size puppets in action.
Tim Richards, CEO of Vue Entertainment comments: “Vue Entertainment has invested heavily in providing the best possible state-of-the-art, fully-digital screens and audio-visual technology in all of our 83 cinemas nationwide. This allows us to provide customers with not just the ultimate film viewing experience, but access to event cinema screenings too.
“We are committed to providing something for everyone and the demand for event cinema screenings has increased significantly over the years as a result. From live music concerts, opera and ballet to live sporting events and art exhibitions, we are really proud to be able tooffer greater access to the arts and entertainment to people up and down the country.”
The most successful event cinema screening to date, was the one-off 75-minute special of the 50th Anniversary episode of Doctor Who, The Day of the Doctor in November 2013, which was simultaneously screened with the broadcast on BBC One. The episode screened in stunning 3D in cinemas nationwide and starred Matt Smith, Jenna Coleman, and former Time Lord David Tennant, as well as Billie Piper and John Hurt.
Other successful event cinema screenings include National Theatre Live’s broadcast of The Audience starring Helen Mirren as the Queen, exhibitions of Manet and Vermeer, Muserecorded live from Rome, and Robbie Williams live from Tallinn which saw thousands of fans through the cinema doors.
Event cinema screenings in 2014 is set to be the biggest season to date, including the live broadcast of the National Theatre’s War Horse and King Lear, directed by Sam Mendes, English National Opera performances including Peter Grimes, Terry Gilliam’s reimagining of Cellini, Elton John live from Caesar’s Place Las Vegas, and Vikings Live from the British Museum.
