GDC Technology Limited (‘GDC’), a leading global provider of digital cinema solutions, announced today that the company’s immersive audio bitstream (IAB) solution developed for its SR-1000 Standalone Integrated Media Block™ has been successfully integrated with over 100 cinema screens worldwide.
The process to transition to DTS:X for IAB has been completed in such countries as Canada, France, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Singapore, Switzerland, and the United States. This puts GDC ahead of schedule to prepare cinemas for the future and substantiates GDC’s global leadership to ensure cinemas are ready for the transition to the SMPTE standard.
In August 2021, GDC introduced new media servers with a built-in cinema audio processor option based on the architecture of the SGS-certified
SR-1000 IMB™. In addition to offering the optional cinema audio processor for 5.1/7.1 PCM uncompressed surround sound, SR-1000 features a 15.1 cinema audio processor for the immersive sound system including IAB immersive audio. Currently, the innovative SR-1000 with a built-in cinema audio processor can offer the complete solution for cinemas worldwide to playback the filmmaker’s audio and visual intent by featuring DTS:X for IAB object-based audio, with 16-/24-/32 channels of audio output.
“The transition from proprietary sound formats to the IAB standard is here and we are ahead of schedule preparing our partners for the future, said Dr. Man-Nang Chong, founder, chairman and CEO of GDC Technology Limited. “Producing media servers with DTS:X for IAB rendering up to 32 channels represents another milestone in the pursuit of offering our customers a complete immersive sound solution, which provides their guests with a truly amazing listening experience.”
