Barco, the leader in laser-powered cinema solutions, and Qube Cinema, a global provider of end-to-end digital cinema technology, today announced a multi-year agreement for the deployment of HDR by Barco in premium auditoriums across India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh.
Under the deal, moviegoers in these markets can look forward to at least 10 new HDR by Barco locations per year in the coming years, with all locations in the deal deployed by 2030. The news comes after the 2025 edition of CinemaCon, the exhibition industry’s annual convention in Las Vegas, where Barco announced several HDR titles coming this year.
HDR by Barco debuted at CinemaCon 2024 in Las Vegas and is available at select locations in the United States and the United Kingdom. With today’s announcement, Qube and Barco are making this ground-breaking high-dynamic range presentation accessible to more moviegoers around the world.
“Barco has a long history of working with Qube Cinema to elevate the moviegoing experience for audiences across Southern Asia with laser projection,” said Gerwin Damberg, EVP of Barco Cinema. “Now, with the expansion of HDR by Barco, we look forward to working together to raise the bar for cinema once again and bring premium high-dynamic range presentation to theaters throughout the region.”
Speaking about the partnership, Harsh Rohatgi, Chief Executive Officer, Qube Cinema said “Our long-term partnership with Barco has helped us establish superior projection standards across several theatres in the country. When we experienced their latest Lightsteering technology, we realized that it would help both filmmakers to offer, and viewers to enjoy, a premium visual presentation of movies in HDR. As a company that has pioneered several technologies in the digital cinema space, we are proud to introduce HDR by Barco in cinemas across the country. We are happy to have our longstanding exhibitor partner Asian Cinemas join us on this journey and launch this technology at three of their upcoming screens in India.”
The first HDR by Barco screen in India that is scheduled to open in partnership with Qube/Barco will be at AMB Cinemas, Hyderabad on July 27, 2025, the anniversary of Asian Cinemas’ late founder Mr. Narayan Das K Narang's birthday. AMB Cinemas is a partnership between Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu Garu and Asian Cinemas led by Mr Suniel Narang and Mr Barath Narang and is one of India’s leading properties.
Based on the company’s patented Lightsteering technology, Barco’s approach to HDR works by strategically redistributing light on screen to produce highlights that are over 6x brighter than traditional projection while retaining rich details in the darks for greater depth, clarity, and range. HDR by Barco offers filmmakers expansive creative possibilities, producing a wide color gamut with high-contrast images that captivate audiences.
Barco and Qube share a rich heritage of collaboration, having most recently partnered together to accelerate the rollout of laser projection throughout South Asia. Now the two companies are again working together to bring the latest in premium movie presentation to moviegoers across Southern Asia for the first time.
