The first ever Big Screen showings of Michael Jackson’s iconic Thriller video have helped push the singer’s new album Thriller 25 to a Top Three debut in the UK charts.
As part of the celebrations for the 25th anniversary of his 1983 original hit (with sales in excess of 100 million copies it is the most successful music album of all time ) the accompanying short film Thriller was screened free at selected ODEON cinemas around the country on Friday and Saturday 8th/9th February.
The original 14-minute music video had been digitally enhanced to “terrorize y’awl neighbourhood”, making it a must for any Jackson fans. The shows started at 11.30 pm in seven selected ODEON cinema locations and were well attended, with two locations completely full!
The digital screenings formed part of a worldwide promotional launch campaign for the Thriller 25 album and audience feedback from the cinemas demonstrated the appreciation at seeing this iconic short film, never before seen on the Big Screen:
"The reaction was great. Cheers and applause could be heard after the screening so the guests had a great time" ‘The Quad poster was stolen by eager fans’
Said Christine Costello of More2Screen:
‘Thriller Nights’ was a fantastic collaboration which gave added value to ODEON customers and allowed Sony BMG to share the excitement of the new album launch. The original Thriller is still the biggest selling album of all time and watching Director John Landis’ accompanying film again reminded us why it broke the mould in music videos in its day and remains a milestone in pop and video history"
