CINEvents to Digitally Premiere The Grateful Dead Movie
in High Definition at Select Movie Theatres in January
Grateful Dead Productions and CINEvents, Inc. Introduce the Latest in Digital Cinema Technology to Create a Groundbreaking Experience
CINEvents, Inc., a leading provider of
high definition entertainment, announced today the world premiere digital
broadcast of The Grateful Dead Movie to select movie theatres across the US. The
movie will screen in theatres on successive evenings, January 24, 25, and 26.
The event marks the landmark concert film’s first ever digital theatrical
release. The newly restored edition features rare archived material re-mastered
in high definition as well as the surround sound mix as originally envisioned
and personally overseen by Jerry Garcia. The film includes the classic Grateful
Dead line up of Jerry Garcia, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh, and Bob Weir along
with Keith and Donna Godchaux, with a special appearance from the then-retired
Mickey Hart.
Only theatres employing Cinema Grade DLP™ projectors and Dolby 5.1 Surround
Sound will participate. Each DLP™ projector houses a special chip containing a
rectangular array of up to 1.3 million hinge-mounted microscopic mirrors, each
measuring less than 1/5th the width of a human hair. CINEvents harnesses this
technology by multicasting over its Digital Cinema Network to enable a new level
of high definition entertainment to be experienced in the movie theatre
environment.
“CINEvents is thrilled to be working with Grateful Dead Productions to provide
the highest technical caliber of theatre entertainment possible” said Bob
Stewart, CEO of CINEvents. “We believe this event ushers in a new era of
theatre-based entertainment.”
“The Grateful Dead has partnered with CINEvents because their exceptional
technology and theatre network allow us to present The Grateful Dead Movie as it
was originally intended – in High Definition video and with Jerry’s original
theatrical audio mix” said David Lemieux, the band’s official Audio / Visual
Archivist.
