International Cinematographers Guild Partners With NAB Show

Co-Producing Two A-list Panels at Las Vegas Event
The International Cinematographers Guild (IATSE Local 600) will be involved in an unprecedented, multi-faceted content partnership with the 2012 NAB Show in Las Vegas, reflecting the Guild’s comittment to leadership in the areas of film and television image creation and technology.

As part of this, the ICG and NAB Show are organizing two panel discussions—“Two Minds: One Vision,” which will take place on April 16 in the Creative Master Series and “Spotlight on ICG’s Emerging Cinematographer Awards: Three Winners and Their Stories” on April 17 in the Content Theater. The ICG will also be conducting tours of the show floor for selected independent filmmakers.

“This is an incrediably exciting time for cinematographers and their crews,” said Steven Poster ASC, President of the ICG. “Guild members are embracing new technologies with significant investments in training and workflow refinement to assist producers in realizing the full creative and economic potential of these advancements.”

“Our members provide the leading edge of the art and technology behind cinema and television,” said David Geffner, Executive Editor of ICG Magazine, and the moderator for both panels. “As an organization we are proud to give these skilled professionals a forum to share their insight and experience.”

The first panel will examine how cinemtographers collaborate with the main creative force on a TV series. How do the most successful duos merge their visions to achieve the highest levels of artistry? Two noteworthy teams--the filmmakers from Vampire Diaries and CSI: Miami--will discuss how they realize the visual style of their high-stakes projects. (Monday, South Hall, room S220 at 2:45-3:45 p.m.)

The April 17 panel will consist of three past winners of the prestigious Emerging Cinematographer Awards [ECA], recounting stories of how the award impacted their careers. The ECA competition, open to members of the Guild who are not yet designated as Directors of Photography, is now in its 16th year. (Tuesday, South Upper Hall, Content Theater at 4:30-5:30 p.m. The Guild will also host a cocktail reception immediately following the ECA panel nearby in Room S219 from 5:30-6:30 pm.)

Additionally, the ICG has expanded the size of its booth, more than doubling its footprint on the show floor from previous years.

The ICG brings a vital constituency and expertise to the show,” said Chris Brown, the Executive VP of Conventions and Business Operations for NAB Show. “Their members are at the forefront of the constantly evolving digital world and their expanded presence shows an important commitment towards industry education that our attendees welcome.”

“As an official NAB partner,” said Poster, “We felt it was important to have a significant presence at the world’s largest digital event. Our goal is to make attendees feel welcome and to provide them with valuable information about the ICG.”

Poster and Alan Gitlin, ICG Secretary/Treasurer, will lead independent filmmakers on exclusive tours of about a dozen hardware and software booths whose products are new and noteworthy, providing a knowledgeable and unbiased viewpoint.
