Harkness Screens Unveils the Digital Screen Calculator
A New App for Screen Lifecycle Management
Harkness Screens
the world’s leading manufacturer of projection surfaces for cinema and
thought-leaders in on-screen brightness has released its third in a series of
screen lifecycle management apps designed at assisting cinema operators with
managing their screen portfolio.
The
Digital Screen Calculator is a free utility on iOS, Android and through the
Harkness website that allows engineers and exhibitors to ensure that digital
cinema investments are fully optimised.
Quick and easy to use, the tool calculates the capabilities of equipment
choices and provides recommendations on projector, lamp and screen choices
based upon chosen screen size and light levels for 2D and 3D. It also calculates theoretical operating costs
and shows how screen choice might reduce these dramatically.
“In three years the Digital Screen Selector,
which we’ve now retired, proved to be a massive success gaining over a thousand
registered users and increasing awareness of key brightness issues. The new Digital
Screen Calculator is a direct replacement for that tool and builds on all of
the useful features that our user base came to know and love with some quite
significant enhancements and cross platform integration. We’ve kept the interface and operation very
similar to our other iOS and Android apps so it’s an intuitive and familiar
feeling from the get go for our existing app user base,” says Richard Mitchell,
Worldwide Marketing Manager at Harkness Screens.
One significant productivity gain from the
Digital Screen Calculator is its bi-directional
functionality which allows information entered in to the Digital Screen
Calculator to be exported rapidly to further simulate and evaluate equipment
choices in the Digital Screen Modeller (Harkness’ 3D screen modelling app). Likewise models created in the Digital Screen
Modeller can be exported to the Digital Screen Calculator to carry out
operating cost comparisons.
“These apps continue to change the way
exhibitors think about issues such as light on screen, brightness uniformity,
theatre design and screen management as a whole. In the relatively short time
these apps have been available they’ve started resolving real-world issues. With the Digital Screen Calculator we’re able
for the first time to properly identify potential operational cost savings that
might be achievable through careful equipment specification and optimisation
and we’re confident that the Calculator will prove a huge success” Mitchell
concludes.
The Digital Screen Calculator is
available now for download via the Apple App Store, Google Play/Android Market
and also through the Harkness website.
