CGR Cinemas Opens the First European Multiplex with 100% of the Auditoriums Equipped By HTS Qalif Optimizers

CGR Cinemas, the second largest French exhibition chain in number of cinemas and the first in France to have launched the digitalization of its whole park, has recently inaugurated their latest Multiplex in Vitrolles, thereby launching a new generation of CGR Multiplexes. At the forefront of projection technology and of spectator comfort, this new generation of Multiplexes was quickly equipped with the Qalif technology from Highlands Technologies Solutions (HTS) to ensure a permanent monitoring of the projection quality in every auditorium.

Thus celebrating the 20th anniversary of the opening of the first CGR Multiplex, CGR Studio Lumières in Vitrolles is the first Multiplex of the latest generation of CGR Cinémas’ sites. With 12 auditoriums, 2500 seats and 700 parking spots, the site aims to welcome around 700,000 moviegoers every year. Its high-end positioning, with always better quality, will help the theatre to differentiate itself from the competition, with a better overall experience for the audience and an optimal quality requirement for the projections.

The deployment of the Qalif Optimizers, which ensure a daily control of the quality projection, automatic adjustment and which a remote supervision will allow CGR Cinéma’s technical management to guarantee the best use of the projection equipment, thus optimizing the investment.

Indeed, every screening theatre has fixed installations of Qalif Optimizers, a first in Europe! The Qalif Optimizer units are custom made for this type of installation in the theatres. They act as automatic control units for the projection quality and are therefore capable of adjusting focus automatically and precisely and of piloting the lamp power, of analyzing the audio systems in the theatres (including Atmos) as well as the light distribution on the screens. All of these measures can be programmed and launched automatically with remote monitoring and reporting.

CGR Cinemas have always been a leading innovative cinema chain. The group was the first in Europe to believe in digital cinema technology with the now well-known huge worldwide success for the industry, which in 2009 led to Jocelyn Bouyssy receiving the « Exhibitor of the Year » Award at CineEurope.

Sébastien Bruel, CGR Cinemas’ Technical Director, comments « Our exhibition network is proud to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its Multiplex network with exciting milestones like the opening of the CGR Studio Lumières. We strongly believe in the importance of quality and in the experience given to our audience. The HTS Qalif units fit our needs perfectly, and help us to obtain the best results from our high-end equipment. We are happy to rely on this innovative professional tool in our market cinema growth, and we are confident in the future. »

Patrick Zucchetta, Highlands Technologies Solutions CEO, adds « CGR Cinemas has always been a pioneer and a driving power in the implementation of the very best cinema technologies. Their visionary position within the digital world and now with the Qalif systems reminds us of the time when we supplied their first Doremi servers ! History repeats itself; we are happy to be able to provide our full manufacturer support and to have been chosen as a participant in the new generation of CGR Multiplexes”.
