Making great strides in the research and development of 3D technology during the past year, XPAND has wisely incorporated Active 3D delivery as their primary product for the digital cinema marketplace. In a strategic move to position the company as a dominant player in 3D, XPAND joined forces with NuVision Technologies (Portland, OR), creating a compelling business model that will support existing and future XPAND digital theaters.
XPAND 's active 3D glasses utilize a specialized fast-switching technology to alternately block each eye. This patented technology delivers the highest quality in stereoscopic imagery, which result in the absolute, guest experience and sterioscopic 3D realism.
With over 150 international 3D theaters throughout Europe, Russia and Asia, XPAND 's active 3D system was first installed at the O’Neil Theatres of New England where they have two (2) 3D theatres in each of their Londonderry, NH and Lisbon, CT sites. As one of the first exhibitors to recognize the value of the active glasses technology, O’Neil Theatres put XPAND on the map in the U.S. Having the vision to see the 3D platform increase and commitment by the studios, they’ve successfully run four major releases with Beowulf (Paramount Pictures), Nightmare Before Christmas and Hannah Montana (Disney) and U2 (National Geographic) in less than six months.
“We’re extremely proud of the O’Neil theater sites and look forward to partnering with them on future development, says Maria Costeira, XPAND’s CEO. Having started as a smaller exhibitor, they’ve begun an expansion program to bring more chains to the eastern board and are working with some of the major developers to accomplish this goal.”
Crossing over to the institutional world, XPAND opened their first science center theater at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL. This turnkey project is a state-of-the-art multimedia theater which uses cross into new territories of digital cinema.
Having participated in their recent gala which celebrated NASA’s 50th anniversary of the US space program, a host of distinguished astronauts, press and the state’s top officials got a sneak peak from nWave Pictures Fly Me to the Moon, scheduled for release later this summer by Summit Pictures.
“We believe we have firmly planted our flag in the institutional market,” says President, Sergej Racman. “Having a personal interest in the world of science, we hope to develop more of these sites and assist our network of destination sites with special educational series to parallel their existing programs.”
XPAND offers several turnkey 3D theater solutions, as well as unique distribution programs and is looking to partner with domestic and international theater exhibitors who clearly recognize the highest levels of 3D technology and profitability. As the dominant 3D leader in Europe and Russia, XPAND sees the US, Canadian and other markets joining the ranks.
XPAND was created by industry veterans in theatrical exhibition, entertainment, film production & distribution, and specialty film and digital technologies and is funded by a European investment fund. This broad range of professional entities are the driving force in creating the ultimate Digital 3D experience.
