Dolby Laboratories Announces Executive Promotions of Steve Forshay to Senior Vice President, Research and Craig Todd to Vice President of Technology Strategy
Craig Todd to Oversee New Corporate Technology Strategy Group that Formalizes Company's Ongoing Commitment to Leadership in Providing Entertainment Technology Solutions
olby Laboratories, Inc. today announced two changes to its executive team. Steve Forshay has been promoted to Senior Vice President, Research. He previously held the title of Vice President of Research and Development. The company also announced the promotion of Craig Todd to Vice President of Technology Strategy. Bill Jasper, President, Director, and Chief Executive Officer at Dolby made the announcements.
"I'm pleased to announce Steve's well-deserved promotion to Senior Vice President, Research," Mr. Jasper said. "For more than 20 years, he has demonstrated both the leadership and management skills that have allowed Dolby to successfully transition from the analog world into the digital world."
"I'm equally pleased to announce Craig's promotion to Vice President of Technology Strategy and to name him as the leader of corporate technology strategy," added Mr. Jasper. "Craig is superbly and uniquely qualified for this expanded assignment as he is widely acknowledged as a leader in entertainment technology and has played a substantial role in forging the technology strategies that have helped shape Dolby's success."
Since joining Dolby in 1982, Mr. Forshay has helped facilitate research and development of the innovative audio and surround sound technologies conceived and developed by Dolby's talented inventors and technologists. In addition to overseeing technology research activities, including sound technology as well as image signal processing and related entertainment technologies, Mr. Forshay participates in formulation and oversight of corporate business, technology, and standards strategies.
Mr. Forshay holds a BSEE from the New Jersey Institute of Technology and an MBA from St. Mary's College. He is a member of the Audio Engineering Society (AES), the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE), and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He is also active in industry standards and business forums.
In his new role, Mr. Todd will be responsible for leading identification and assessment of new opportunities, coordination of standards activities, and making recommendations regarding medium- and long-term corporate technology strategy. Mr. Todd and his Technology Strategy Group will continue to report in as part of Dolby's Research Division.
After joining the company in 1977, Mr. Todd worked on the development of Dolby® Surround. In 1992 he focused his efforts on bringing multichannel digital audio to the consumer. He was instrumental in establishing Dolby Digital in DTV, CATV, and DVD formats, and has most recently made major technical contributions to the technology strategy and systems architecture of Dolby's Digital Cinema system. A holder of more than 20 patents, Mr. Todd has participated in standards-setting activities for the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC), the Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) project, the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE), the International Telecommunications Union (ITU-R), the Audio Engineering Society (AES), the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), and the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). He is a fellow of both the AES and SMPTE, and in 2002 was awarded the SMPTE Samuel L. Warner Memorial Medal for contributions to motion picture sound.
