DCI Mastering with DVS at Mosfilm

Mosfilm, one of Europe’s largest film corporations, has opted for a DVS CLIPSTER®
In early 2010, the DI workstation CLIPSTER® was added as an essential component to Mosfilm’s workflows. Mosfilm is a well-known Russian film corporation with a wide equipment of cameras, DI suites, synchronization, and sound studios. CLIPSTER®, the DVS flagship, performs Mosfilm’s DCI Mastering and generates encoded data packages in high speed.

CLIPSTER® replaces Mosfilm’s former DCI Mastering system and considerably accelerates the process. All necessary DCI steps from DSM (Digital Source Master) to DCP (Digital Cinema Package) can be created in a single system thus preventing time-consuming transfer processes through the use of many different components. The editors at Mosfilm can view the finished DCPs directly in CLIPSTER® and change color spaces on screen right away, which makes the entire process very comfortable, transparent and time-saving.

For CLIPSTER® alone, Mosfilm built a preview suite in theater size, individually adapted to their 3D projects. Requiring real-time capabilities, Mosfilm benefits from the latest developments in DVS’s DI workstation: CLIPSTER® generates 3D DCPs in real-time and accelerates DCI Mastering and 3D subtitling thanks to DVS’s sophisticated hardware.

Mosfilm is enthusiastic about the DI workstation’s multiple fields of application, e.g. mastering, conforming and multi-format capabilities. Especially CLIPSTER’s competence in playing out uncompressed data in highest quality assists Mosfilm in efficiently processing the annual amount of film material. The award-winning DI workstation lets users combine RAW data from RED®, ARRI D-20 and D-21, Phantom and Silicon Imaging’s SI-2Kcameras on a single timeline and decodes, demosaics and supports all formats in real-time.

Igor Bogdasarov, Chief Engineer at Mosfilm: “We are absolutely delighted with CLIPSTER®. The installation went smoothly and the DI wokstation has quickly become an integral and reliable part of our workflow. Thanks to DVS we have implemented high-class DCI Mastering and we can now offer a unique service to our Russian clients.”

Juri Freiberger, Business Development and Pre-Sales Eastern Europe at DVS: “Mosfilm is among Europe’s largest and most prestigious film corporations. It was very important for us to work with such a well-known partner and to assist in expanding the Russian film market with DVS technology.”
