Underscoring its world-leading 3D technology capabilities, XpanD will once again provide the 3D technology at the 67th Venice International Film Festival. Five thousand XpanD X101 3D glasses will be used as five international juries assess and bestow the Lion’s Award to the world’s best in film.
Instituted in 2009, The Persol 3D Award, the first international 3D award of its kind, will once again honor this year’s most creative use of stereoscopic 3D during the festival.
“XpanD is honored to exclusively supply 3D to one of the most important film festivals in the world,” said XpanD CEO Maria Costeira. “3D in films is no longer a gimmick. Filmmakers are utilizing 3D for in-depth and beautiful imaging, allowing a vision come to life; letting an audience feel as if they are in the picture. The audience and judges will be able to take in every intricate detail of the films with XpanD 3D technology.”
“XpanD brings a level of entertainment and art to the Venice Film Festival that enables directors and writers to show their beautiful stories and images with the most effective 3D technology available,” stated Angelo d’Alessio, head of digital cinema, Venice Film Festival. “For the past two years, the brilliance of XpanD technology has transformed the festival and we hope to continue this tradition in years to come.
