Kortrijk—Oct 14, 2005
1 x Robbie Williams = 21 x Robbie Williams
On Sunday 9 October, the Robbie Williams
album-launching show was broadcast live in High Definition to 21 cinemas and
special venues. In a vast majority of cases the visualization was made possible
by visualization specialist Barco, either with a 2k Digital Cinema projector in
the theatres or an R18 projector for IMAG (Image Magnification) at the special
venues.
A majority of the cinemas used for the album launch are equipped with Barco’s
Digital Cinema projectors. Recognized as the industry standard for Digital
Cinema, Barco’s D-Cine Premiere projector range is based on the DLP Cinema™
technology of Texas Instruments and delivers a true cinema experience with rich
color, incredible sharpness (2K display resolution), and high contrast (contrast
ratio of 2000:1). The high-end projector range comes in 2 versions: DP90 for
screens up to 15m, and DP100 for larger screens.
Nico Vernieuwe, VP Sales & Marketing of Barco's Media & Entertainment division,
states: “Barco as a company strongly believes in the “alternative content”
concept for cinemas. Broadcasting Robbie Williams’ show is a perfect example of
how theater owners can turn their cinema into a multi-purpose environment
offering entertainment and information of any kind.”
Alfacam, a Belgium-based company providing TV facilities and services to
broadcasters and production houses, and its sister company, Euro1080, Europe’s
first HDTV media company, took care of the recording of the Robbie Williams
concert in Berlin and its satellite transmission to the various venues. In
addition Alfacam was responsible for the organization and management of the
event at the Eurocam Media Center in Belgium, and the Heineken Music Hall in
Amsterdam. In total, more than 30,000 fans had the opportunity to watch one of
Europe's most popular artists live in a show, which was sold out in Berlin
within minutes.
Gabriel Fehervari, CEO of Euro1080 and Alfacam, comments: "We are extremely
proud to have played a crucial role in this unique High Definition project. Both
Alfacam and Euro1080 have been pioneering HDTV since many years and thanks to
our solid cooperation with HDTV devoted companies like Barco, we are able to
broadcast unique sports, music and cultural events in High Definition quality to
venues and fans all over Europe.“
Nico Vernieuwe adds “Barco is able to offer a full visualization solution,
building on our leadership in the Events market, where we offer high-end LED and
high-brightness projectors for live IMAG applications, and our leadership in
Digital Cinema offering true high-end digital cinema quality.”
