AIMC/Gold Coast, Australia—Oct 12, 2015

Christie Showcases A Comprehensive Range of Cinema and Experiential Digital Signage Solutions at AIMC

Christie®, the global leader in visual displays and audio technologies, is participating in the 70th Australian International Movie Convention (AIMC), which takes place at the Pavilion Convention Centre, Jupiters Hotel & Casino in Gold Coast, Australia, from October 11-15.

As the gold sponsor of this prestigious event, Christie is proud to provide the Christie CP2220 DLP® digital cinema projector for movie screenings conducted throughout the convention. Designed for ease of use and maximum reliability with the majority of screens in commercial exhibition, the Christie CP2220 is the brightest, highest performance projector with the lowest operating costs in its class.

Christie is showcasing its state-of-the-art cinema and audio solutions, which include the new Christie CP2208 digital cinema projector that delivers superior performance with flexibility and affordability, as well as Christie Vive Audio™ that offers rich, dynamic and detailed sound.

Designed for screens up to 10 meters wide, the CP2208 is capable of displaying DCI, 3D, High Frame Rate (HFR), alternative and local content. Feature film content can be displayed using a third-party Integrated Media Block (IMB) or the easy to operate Screen Management Software (SMS) with the Christie Integrated Media Block (IMB-S2). Christie also provides a comprehensive range of lamp and lens options that offer a low cost of ownership, enabling cinema exhibitors to realize a faster return on investment.

Also on display are Christie Vive Audio components including LA1 screen channel speakers, LA3C surround speakers, S115 and S118 subwoofers, and a range of Class D amplifiers. Combining the superior sound qualities of ribbon driver technology with the proven high-quality performance of a line array speaker design, Christie Vive Audio unlocks the full potential of DCI digital cinema audio formats to deliver the most realistic audio experience possible.

A range of Christie Vive Audio components are showcased at the booth

In an effort to engage in knowledge sharing with AIMC participants, Christie will deliver a presentation titled “How Experiential Digital Signage is Creating Value for Exhibitors” in the Jupiters Theatre on October 14 at 2:30 p.m. Presented by Denys Lavigne, senior director, Christie THREE SIXTY, it outlines how next-generation digital signage, or experiential digital signage, is redefining environments and how brands connect with consumers. The presentation also offers insights and observations on how experiential digital signage is delivering value in hospitality, retail, and cinema, particularly for cinema lobbies. Fascinating experiential installations from around the world and global trends in this area will also be shared.

An interactive Christie MicroTiles “gaming” wall at Hoyts Cinema Technology Group’s booth

To help exhibitors elevate their “lobby” experience to a new level, Christie is presenting a turnkey multi-touch video wall solution through the creation of an amazing interactive digital experience at the Hoyts Cinema Technology Group booth at #33/34. A large-format interactive 6 x 4 Christie MicroTiles® display will be showcased together with Christie Interactivity Kit and  Christie JumpStart to produce an interactive “gaming” wall. Visitors can play the highly popular “Angry Birds” video game series from Rovio Entertainment on the MicroTiles wall for a chance to win an Apple Watch or a pair of Christie speakers.

Besides offering a complete range of cinema and experiential digital signage solutions, Christie also runs a network operations centre in Melbourne that serves as the central hub for cinema support activities. Known as the Christie-ICAA Network Operations Centre (NOC), it provides 24/7 monitoring of hardware and offers round-the-clock telephone support for all technical issues, including day-to-day operational questions.

Christie has recently reached an agreement with Hoyts Cinema Technology Group to license the KDM Krawler system for use in the Christie-ICAA NOC. This allows the NOC to use the system for automatic delivery of KDMs directly to cinemas for movie playback – the system sends a report to the cinema once KDMs are ingested. The cinema no longer needs to spend time extracting and installing KDMs from emails for each feature, which results in time savings for exhibitors. Known as the “Christie KDM Assistant”, it will be a value-added service provided to all Christie-ICAA NOC-connected customers to help them stay competitive at no extra charge. For more information on this new service, visit the Christie booth.

“With a history of more than 85 years in the cinema business, Christie has been actively involved in commercial and technological breakthroughs to further the growth of Australia’s cinema industry,” said Lin Yu, vice president, Christie Asia Pacific. “Our digital cinema and audio technologies are positioned to help exhibitors maximise the returns on their investments, provide movie-goers with the best possible visual and audio experience, and at the same time, reinforce Christie’s position as a leader in the digital cinema market.”

Michael Bosworth, General Manager, Christie Australia, added, “The AIMC is a wonderful opportunity for us to network and renew friendships with our customers and partners in the Australian cinema exhibition industry. This year, we are very pleased to showcase our latest digital cinema technologies, including the new Christie CP2208 projector and an array of Vive Audio components that deliver the best visuals and audio quality. Together with our digital-signage lobby solutions designed to inspire and entertain movie-goers, Christie has what it takes to help exhibitors engage their guests with a unique, immersive cinema experience.”
