Quvis Launches Wraptor DCP Services for Independent Filmmakers

Quvis Announces Studio Quality DCP with Software or Service, and Secure, Affordable Archiving and Distribution for Independent Filmmakers
Today, Quvis Technologies Inc, a provider of digital cinema software, announced the availability of Wraptor DCP services.  Available immediately, Quvis now offers indie filmmakers a fast, reliable and attractively priced alternative for creating, archiving and distributing studio quality DCPs.

With all cinemas expected to convert to digital projectors by 2015, the Digital Cinema Package (DCP) is replacing film print as the standard cinematic format globally. DCP offers a superior viewing experience over alternative formats such as BluRay and DVD for one simple reason – the cinema picture quality is better. There is tremendous variance in pricing in the market when it comes to DCP conversion. Up until now, filmmakers have paid anywhere from $5,000 to $20,000 to convert their films to DCP.  With Quvis DCP services, the company is making it easy and affordable for filmmakers to not only convert films to DCP, but also archive and distribute them easily to film festivals.

“Studios distribute in DCP for a reason – the quality is better,” said Quvis CEO Kenbe Goertzen. “Indie filmmakers are increasingly required to convert and distribute their projects to film festivals in DCP. It delivers a better exhibition and that is why studios don’t distribute to cinemas in BluRay. With Quvis, we make it affordable for Indies to make a professional grade DCP. Now with our Wraptor DCP service offering, we’re taking it even further by offering everything from DCP conversion, to archiving your film and managing the distribution.”

“Film festival programmers are responsible for viewing hundreds and, sometimes thousands of movie submissions a year and they're always looking for the simplest and most cost-effective viewing experience as well the best quality picture,” said Laurie Kirby, Executive Director of the International Film Festival Summit, a conference for festival organizers. “Fortunately, new technology makes it possible to stream submissions, eliminating the need for DVD's. More festivals are exhibiting in DCP format so filmmakers and festivals will definitely benefit from this type of DCP service and distribution package."

Professional Quality DCP Creation for Secure Distribution
Wraptor DCP service offers independent filmmakers the best combination of reliability, security, and value for DCP creation, archiving and distribution. Filmmakers begin the process with the Wraptor intake questionnaire, describing their project and selecting DCP conversion options, including optional encryption and key generation. After the source files are sent to Quvis via FTP upload or mailed hard drive, Quvis creates the DCP to the desired specifications and delivers it back to the filmmaker via mail or Web. Quvis also offers the option of archiving the DCP files and handling distribution at the filmmaker’s request.

Additional features of Wraptor DCP services include:
  • Testing every DCP created in multiple DCI compliant players.
  • Optional encryption for real security
  • Optional physical shipment of DCP on hard drive
  • Distributing DCP content to film festivals
Quvis Wraptor 2.0 softwareTM, featuring Quvis’ proprietary Quality Priority Encoding (QPE TM) technology, plugs into Apple Compressor, enabling filmmakers to easily, accurately and inexpensively create the DCP format used by most theatrical digital projection systems. Wraptor 2.0 does what other options don’t –packages data that results in the highest quality image storage in an efficient format – without risking the distortion that can come with other software solutions that rely heavily on compression techniques.

Pricing and Availability
Quvis Services Offering pricing is dependent on the length of the film. For more detailed pricing information, please visit http://www.quvis.com/ or contact our sales team at 785-272-3657.
