Dolby Announces First Dolby® Atmos™ Post-Production Facility in France
‘En Solitaire’ first French feature film to be mixed with Dolby Atmos sound
olby Laboratories, Inc. (NYSE:DLB) today announced that Paris-based post-production facility Ink Production studio has become the first French facility to be fitted with Dolby Atmos. Starting in June 2013,
directed by Christophe Offenstein and produced by Gaumont / Les Films du Cap will be the first French feature film mixed in Dolby Atmos at Ink Production.
“Since it was launched a year ago, the industry response to Dolby Atmos has been incredibly positive, and it’s fast becoming the preferred choice for next-generation sound in the cinema across the globe,” said Julian Pinn, Director, Cinema Marketing, Dolby Laboratories. “Ink Production is joining a growing number of post-production facilities across the globe and we really look forward to hearing the results of their efforts.”
“Here at Ink, we always strive to be at the cutting edge of technology innovation and to offer the latest and best to our clients,” said Alexandre Widmer, General Manager at Ink Production. “It’s really exciting to be the first facility in France to have this new system and it speaks volumes about Ink’s position as a leader in post-production in France,” he added.
Scheduled for release in France in November 2013,
tells the story of ambitious skipper Yann who sees his dream come true when he joins the round-the-world yacht race Vendée Globe at the last minute. Nine days into the race and leading, Yann is forced to stop on the Canary Islands to repair his broken rudder. As he sails off, he discovers a stowaway on board – Mano, a teenager from Mauritania. Their encounter leads to the most unforgettable round-the-world race ever.
Dolby Atmos unleashes the potential of sound in storytelling by giving sound experts the creative freedom to easily place or move specific sounds anywhere in the movie theatre, not just wherever there happen to be speakers. The result is what moviegoers have described as the most engaging and immersive cinema sound experience ever. Since launching just over a year ago, over 40 films around the world have been announced or released with Dolby Atmos sound. With more than 100 screens enabled and more than 20 global post-production facilities capable of Dolby Atmos mixing, Dolby Atmos is becoming one of the fastest adopted multi-channel formats in cinema.
About Dolby Atmos
Introduced in April 2012, Dolby Atmos’ innovative approach to cinema sound has been embraced by major studios, award-winning directors and sound teams, and leading exhibitors worldwide. More than 40 films around the world have been released or are scheduled to be released with Dolby Atmos sound since the first film was released in June 2012. In 2013, the Cinema Audio Society gave Dolby Atmos its coveted Technical Achievement Award for Post Production.
